Im as always very excited/petrified about another WC! No reason to dispair too soon, since we could get very lucky with the playoff but who knows.

Once a year hopes build. Surprises lure. Jimmy Bøjgaard and Olaf Eller raise their voices. Wings will be burned. Dreams will crash(When norway destroys us). False prophets will disappoint. True leaders will stand tall. Sweat will drip. Sticks will break. But the question remain... Will Team Denmark survive yet again?

Fixed:P

Its a tough looking group. Without reinforcements, it could be very hard.

Kirill Starkov - Red Ice - NLB - 27
Mathias Thinnesen - Odense, Denmark - 24
Nikolaj Zorko - Rødovre, Denmark - 20

Notes:
First roster: Kirill Starkov is back in the good grace of Janne Karlsson. Asperup above Michael T. Christensen. Not that Asperup wasn't good the times I saw him, but Christensen has been outstanding this year for Rødovre. I'm still not sure where I stand on the Janne Karlsson-style of picking a lot of younger players for the first rosters. The games against South Korea is supposed to be a 50/50 U23-sqaud from Team Denmark.

So it begins...

Is it just because of the games against South Korea or is this a general policy?
Makes you wonder who of the young guys will make it.
Since I don't follow the danish league, I don't know about many of the guys who were a little too old for the WJC....Would be interesting if a player like Nick Olesen made it. Think he would be a interesting and useful player on a 4th line with all his energy. But that is just from watching him at the WJC..don't know if he is good enough for this level, but I love his play style and it seems he would have a better chance to fit in that somebody like Asperup, after the euro veterans arrive.

Good introduction Bank. The journalistic flair for drama - like the “false prophets will disappoint“.
Yet if we regard them as “false prophets“ to start with does it mean they will play excellently?
But true it will be another nerve-racking year to see if they do survive as it will be probably exclusively Euro-based players.
To Admire: Yeah very few of the forward group would end up in the final roster (Morten Poulsen only lock and Anders Poulsen and Starkov likely additions, though Nick Olesen is intriguing), while in the defense Jesper B Jensen & Emil Kristensen are lock and Brugisser and Grønvaldt likely additions.

@admire as I remember it he did the same thing last year, where a lot of young guys was brought along. I think it's something Janne Karlsson sees value in, which I actually get. Instead of having older marginally better players at the first camp might as well get to know the young guys who may or may not be actual for the WC-teams down the road. But at what point do you simply lower the competition at the first camp too much?

@ False prophets are not false until they're exposed ;) It's a journalistic thing to throw out nice words without deeper meaning :D

Only having seen Nick Olesen twice... what's the special thing about him?

The blue line is gonna get crowded. With the Lauridsen brothers likely on their way, Phillip Larsen from Russia, Stefan Lassen and then the competition from the last "Danish" D-men.

.

Im not sure if he is good enough but he is like an energizer bunny out there. Checks everybody, and seems to have an instinct for placing himself correctly, a nose for goal, and his energy makes him tough to contain and adds a lot of disruption in front of net.

Saw all the WJC games plus the games at the junior a challenge. I doubt he would make it since there is so much competion like Justinov said but think he could be an interesting contributor in the future.

Would be interesting to see Hardt get a shot at the NHL. Still not a lot of appetite in the NHL for a guy playing that kind of style being 5' 10", but he does resemble a Brendan Gallagher in the way that he plays, so I wouldn't rule it out.

Hitting a Norwegian always gets a standing ovation from me.

The video brings up such warm feelings... A WC could be a success with one win and a hit like that on a Norwegian.

God yes! We could lose all other games 10-0...but if we beat norway im happy:P

Remember watching a video with hits from both the NHL and international hockey and several people picked the hardt hit out of all the others as the best one.

Its impossible not to love him as a player.

Don't know how much thought has gone behind it, but according to philly.com Oliver Lauridsen is "expected" to be at the WC. I can't quite make out if it's a way of saying he should make the team if he wants to(which would be very correct, but not something new) or if it's a way of saying he's made his mind up about participating.

I can see at least one Danish media has concluded it's the second. I'm not doubting it will be true at some point, but I'm waiting for something more firm before concluding that a NHL'er(Yes he sneaked into this season to) will be joining the Danish WC team

But here it is:

Talking about Hardt, I watched the 4th semifinal between Linköping and Skellefteå this afternoon. Hardt was certainly a hard(t)-hitter delivering six welltimed hits and one assist as Linköping got back in the series. Skellefteå leads 3-1 in matches and can qualify for the final if they win the game on sunday. Hardt looked very good throughout the match and have been a keyplayer for Linköping in the playoffs. He has cerainly taken another step up the ladder this season.

4-2 defeat to France, which seems OK since France is closer to their strongest squad than us.

Jannik Karvinen and Simon Grønvaldt scored for Denmark.

And 4-3 defeat in the second match after being ahead 2-0 and 3-2. Two defeats against France only missing Roussel(NHL), Bellemare(NHL), S. Da Costa(KHL) and Dieudé-Fauvel(AHL). Reasonable for a team of mostly Danish League-players.

Although the goalies numbers are filling me with confidence. Hard to judge without seeing the game though.

I notice that the game reports lists Martin Larsen but I guess it's Matias Lassen they got mixed up with. Didn't see Victor Eskerod on the game reports. Kinda weird to pick him and not use him if he's not injured.

Oh and from some source that's not for the public to see Peter Fredberg has knowledge that Kim Staal, Morten Madsen and Julian Jakobsen will join the roster for the Belarus games. Man, Danish hockey need a shake up in the whole hockey journalist/DIU communications department.

http://www.bt.dk/ishockey/maalkongen-fra-japan-vender-hjem-kim-staal-tilbage-paa-landsholdet

Does DIU even have a place where you can see the current roster? And 'hiding' roster changes like this, why? Don't you want the fans to be involved?

My guess is he got it from the players them self. Otherwise he'd list the cuts to.

DIU could garner so much more publicity if they got a guy to spend an hour or two making a mail with the roster list and send it out to the journalists that contact DIU or the news agencies.

I now see that Martin Larsen have replaced Viktor Eskerod for the two games in France. If its due to injury or something else I don't know.

Lines were as follows:

N. Jensen-Grønvaldt
Kristensen-J. Jensen
Bruggisser-Lassen
Mieritz/Larsen(One game each)

Starkov-Green-Karvinen
Thinnesen-A. Poulsen-M. Poulsen
Asperup-Klarskov-Zorko
Sass-Andreasen-Olesen

At least 3 D-men and 6 forwards should be going home after this.

Am I missing something in this thread or is it clear that you guys really want to beat us badly in the upcoming WC?

Like all WCs....but we know it won't happen. We never beat you at the wc. Even if we dominate a game vs norway, we end up losing

Well, there is a first time for everything. I just hope it won’t happen this year either
