An Oblate Spheroid
I honestly just feel that America is the best country and all the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

But seriously, we have rivalry games like USA vs Canada and Finland vs Sweden the day after Christmas.

Discuss our prospects and their performance, how Rees being left off team Canada is one of the biggest travesties in hockey and all things WJC here.

Team USA vs Team Canada: Thursday @ 1pm
In my humble opinion, Goal-Tending will be key in this game.

Team USA: Spencer Knight, 1st Round Pick, #13, Florida Panthers.

Team Canada: Nico Daws, Undrafted and unexpected to be in this position.

Nico Daws is one to watch.

Big goalie that was passed over in the last Draft but has had a huge season for Guelph. Now he is potentially the starter for Canada.

Could be a Kochetkov 2.0 situation brewing. Canes have never been shy about taking overagers in rounds 2-4.

Lineup for Finland is now out. Killinen gets a chance in the first line with Kupari (former 1st rounder) and Maccelli (4th rounder leading FEL rookies in points).

Puistola still in the 2nd line. Honka playing in the 2nd pair with Ville Heinola. That's a great spot for Honka as Heinola could be one of the better defensemen in the tournament.

I might update some super casual hot takes during/after the Finland-Sweden game.

Does anyone know/remember why Tieksola is not in the tournament?
I don't know for sure, but maybe Karpat organization is too stacked and too represented in the team to fit Tieksola in. Or maybe there just are better guys with a Liiga track record. He's getting opportunities with Karpat now that some of the logjam ahead of him is in the WJC.

In addition to Lempo's points, it's quite common that the Finnish team has bunch of role players in the lower lines. They don't even try to make 4 scoring lines.

I think comparable for Tieksola would be Antti Saarela. Both are 4th rounders from the recent draft. Tieksola has been dominating in the Finnish juniors and Saarela playing mediocrily against the men. He has the experience playing against men and 10kgs of weight as his advantage for the 4th line spot.

Wow! Canada fought back to score two power play goals themselves to take the lead 3-2, but the US went back on the power play at the end of the period and the US scores right as time expires. They are reviewing whether it counted before time expired.

No goal!

US will still be on the PP for about 1:40 to start the third. US defense leaves a lot to be desired but Canada brought some really big, skilled boys to play in the tournament.
