Sutter and TC are doing things differently.

In the past they'd invite 30-35 players and then cut that down to active roster. However this time they have essentially named the team without a selection camp process with only a couple of spares\bubble players.

In Sutter's mind inviting Finn and cutting Finn as he didn't believe he would be on his final team has the same end result as not inviting him in the first place.

Well, it is a little disappointing for Finn, he is having a good year. Either him or Pelach the way I see it. Pelach is more physical, and perhaps more stay at home. Different styles. Finn is not a fast skater, relying more on smarts and positioning, this may have gone into the decision also.

Maybe Finn wasn't invited because the Leafs refused to release Rielly???

I doubt it. Team Canada would come off as childish and petty for doing something like that. And it's not as if that would be punishing the Leafs.

According to one of the execs at today's Hockey Canada news conference, Rielly and Monahan are still possibilities. He said they can take them right up until tournament time if they are released.

HC doesn't always make the right decisions all the time. We haven't won gold since 2009.

I also didn't realize Finn wasn't a Marlie yet!

With only two cuts to be made up front and Sutter loving Gauthier's game he's all but made the team. Good for him, hope he can have a good tournament in the role he's given and come back to Rimouski and have a great second half.

Good to see Gauthier on the team, hopefully he has a strong tourny. Sucks to see Finn left out though

I am most looking forward to seeing Johnson play for Sweden

I don't think McDavid is even guaranteed a spot on the team

It would be a different story if McDavid was anchoring the 1st line ala Sidney Crosby. Brown on his own has not shown enough in other tournments to be considered

What are the chances of Gauthier remaining with the club? team could always use a solid 4th liner/PK specialist, hopefully he gets picked for that role and he surprises many peoples.

You are bang on in your assessment with skating being issue. Same as Nurse.....

i dont think Rielly will be released but if he is, and i said it last year too if given top pp time and top minutes he will be the star of the tournament.. to bad spotts hard on for Ryan Murphy cost us the gold medal (Hamilton and Rielly should have been together)

Another blow to those who insist on judging hockey players particularly prospects solely based on statistics.

I'd like Finn on the team but there is not one member of our D that I would change for him. Besides, Sutter has proven that he can win this tournament.

Would be cool if Verhaeghe and Gauthier were the 2nd and 3rd line centres behind McDavid next year. But that assumes Reinhart, Lazar and Horvat are in the NHL.

I would trade Finn or Brown in a 1 for 1 deal for any of those D specs of F specs.

EDIT: Clarify, Finn or any D-men or Brown for any Forward, but I wouldn't trade Finn for some of those Forwards.

how so? pretty much every guy picked has good stats.

and its not as if team Canada is never wrong. they often leave high-stats guys at home in favour of lesser-stats guys, and it doesn't pay off.

gauthier is probably at least 2 years away.

it seems like they are fielding faster teams. if so, i'm fine with finn developing in the ohl. i am actually more surprised that they are only going with 2 keepers off the bat, when there are 2 other candidates who are doing amazing.
