I guess he could have let the Ducks know that he had no intentions of coming over back then. He wouldn't have made the money he has working himself up in the AHL.

Size and age are a factor and the Ducks have Kossila who is similar but may has more upside. They played for the same junior team and put up similar numbers.

Ducks walked away from him because he's frankly nothing special. If he puts up a good KHL-season (which I very much doubt), then you could call it a mistake in hindsight. But honestly, there's no way he could've made it in the NHL the past few seasons.
