2019 OHL Priority Selection: First-Round Mock Draft

Another mock draft but done by Prospect Pipeline. I’d be intrigued by Pinelli but curious why someone like Sirizotti isn’t ranked around 6.

i can only go by what others tell me but i was told that sirizotti wasnt considered a 1st. his stats may be inflated a bit, winterton is the top guy off that team. i also dont think pinelli is the guy windsor is targetting.

OHL Outsiders posted theMctavish information about he refusal to go to Peterborough. The the arena problems they have and previous players refusing to go there, I’m not surprised at all. Not an attempt at an April fools joke. I’m still wondering if anyone has any knowledge about the Evans kid

If this is true and the league continues to allow players refusal. Then the league's best days are behind it.if a team cant pick the best player in the top 5 rd1 picks then how can a team get better.Im totally against this kind of actions by players.Im gladmy money isnt into tickets in this league anymore. This is a huge reason.More and more fans are saying screw it after seeing this type of politics.

Team owners better wakeup seeing as costs for consumers are going up and the economy is faltering this kind of stuff will not help owners bottom line in the long run.

With the draft coming up in a few days who does Windsor take?

Yes they need bodies and while D is a concern so is forward. They also could use some picks, particularly if Rychel spends more assets to move up in the second or acquire a third.

My belief has always been BPA, including potential defected players that won't report to your team. The only exception to that would be if the player is not likely to report to any team in the league. Windsor has always been able to deal for defected players and have yet, at least in terms of public knowledge not picked a player because they may not report.

From what I understand is the Schmidt kid is committed to BU but at 6'5", 210 and considered to be a high pick if not for the NCAA commit. He fits amost of the needs Windsor's has in searching for a D but the question is will he report to Windsor or another OHL team? If he won't report then pass on him, Windsor needs a body or some decent return out of this draft but if he will report, to Windsor or elsewhere and is available without being a reach Windsor should take him.

Rychel, with a decent future draft board spent a ton to bring Cuylle in with only DiPietro to deal to try to recover those picks. Prices went down and he wasn't able to recover those picks leaving him with a pretty dismal draft cupboard and will likely spend more trying to move up. The problem is if he spends more, with not many pieces to recover them even if the team has a solid line up in two years to make a push he won't have the draft capital to add any missing pieces to actually make a run. If the kid will report elsewhere and Rychel can add picks for the future it may push back any future run a year but also will likely stabilize the ability to be competitive regularly. If the kid does report that's a major box checked off towards their next run and Rychel needs to get creative to restock whatever picks he will need going forward.

If the kid will report somewhere in the league, take him if he's BPA. If not take BPA regardless of position. Just don't pass on a kid who will be in the league somewhere while Windsor settles for next best just to say they got a player who will be here this year. Windsor needs players but they also need the picks as well.

Looking at that mock draft that was posted I like that Pinelli guy, whoever the team gets let's hope they produce well for the team.

Heading into the draft I thought I would do up a list of prospects currently in the system from the last two years for reference. Anyone with any opinions/knowledge on any of them, who has a legitimate shot at making the team going forward or who will likely never report etc please feel free to share what you know. All info comes from Elite Prospects site as of Saturday. Sorry if the formatting doesn't work out right.

Say there are 2-3 open spots up front, plus a spot on D...

I'd like to see Brimmer, Andrews, Lemmer, Kelly, Ulicny, Webber, and Evans all get a shot.

Webber won’t be coming. Neither will Fensore even though both would be top 6 now and this past season.

Wish there were more stats behind Hayes being a 4th rounder. Any input on him from anyone?

Thanks for the info. Must've took a long time.

Lemmer really tore it up this year.

Lemmer really tore it up this year.

Thanks

Had some time to kill and since I'm not familiar with our past draftees/prospects it is easier to put out as much as I could find to get input then strictly limiting any questions to the few who have been mentioned on here.

An example would be Brimmer and Paterson. Both seem like similar players with similar potential but while Brimmer has been mentioned numerous times I don't recall ever hearing Paterson mentioned. Again, not being familiar and only having stats to look at which never tell the whole story better to put them all out there instead of simply wondering why some are talked about and others not.

For any with input/info, thanks.

I believe Markus Paterson was drafted by Flint in the 2018 U18 Draft (same birth date and MM team).

Windsor has him listed on their website under the 2017 draftees. Did they not protect him which made him available for the 2018 U18 draft?

Just noticed elite prospects has him listed for both drafts, must not have been protected by Windsor.

Removed from the above list.

When you're not dealing from a position of strength prices are always high.

Low draft cupboard, a team that underachieved and underperformed that needs to make some significant changes while still in a rebuild mode equals a team that is not dealing from a position of strength.

For Rychel it's about the value of moving up or adding more picks, for other GMs it's about how badly does he want to move up which will increase the ask for extra picks.

Does he borrow from the future to cover the basics of today or does he have enough talent in the system to fill the holes making the extra picks a bonus instead of a need. I think right now most other GMs would view it as Rychel needs some extra picks.

IMHO WR has the trade completed already. When I see WR wishing/thinking out loud to Peter Parker it indicates to me it’s a fait accompli. WR is always looking for publicity...

More then likely you are correct but there's been the odd time a deal hasn't transpired.

Part of his job is a salesman but for those who follow along the questions becomes what's it going to cost and how does it affect the future?

Are we talking about publishing asking prices, or just the questions that Parker should/could ask?

I'm also glad that WR talks to the media as much as he does. I'd MUCH rather deal with a guy like him than someone who will give brief, generic answers and/or bark because he doesn't want to be bothered.

I wish Parker or other Spitfires writers asked the tough, uncomfortable questions. I get it’s hard but it’s the same rinse and repeat articles, no real in depth q&a etc
