The team maintained solid possession numbers despite having a shallower forward core and not having Kovy in the lineup. I don't see why not.

Pete's system isn't built off of guys like Kovalchuk. It's built off of guys like Zubrus and Zajac.

Exactly that, we controlled the puck for large large portions of the games Kovy was out. Some of our best forechecking games of the season, we just couldn't bury our chances, PP was a disgrace, and would let in back breaking goals.

Zach was a bigger lose to Pete's kind of style, not Kovy.

I remember we seemed to be outshooting the teams the most during the 11 game stretch when Kovalchuk was injured. I'm pretty sure we outshot the opponent all 10 games, or at least 9 of those on that 10 game losing streak.

It was during that span that we seemed to outshoot the opponents so ridiculously.

We out shot people more because we limited their shots, not that we were shooting like crazy. Wasn't like we were putting 30-40 pucks on net a night.

The only change is other guys will have to shoot more. Zajac, Henrique, Patty, etc. Our ability to limit shots shouldn't be affected that much.

We did have a bunch of 30+ during that stretch. We outshot opponents in 9 of the 11 games Kovy missed. The 5-4 shootout loss to Tampa Bay shots were 25 a piece, and the Panthers outshot us 30-26 in 3-2 OT loss the next night. We got over 30 shots on goal 6 times during Kovalchuk's absence, and held the oppsotion to under 20 shots 4 times.

I think the shots against might go slightly up with Schneider in net over Marty. Just by 2-3 a game, but it should be no problem.

Well the tweak we have to make is other guys need to shoot more. Bulk of our shots were coming from the same few guys. Need to spread the wealth, and ya lift the damn puck.

I don't know, it might actually get better now that we aren't forcing it to Kovy every time. Elias will be allowed to be more creative, we might bring up Gelinas to be a shooter on it, and Ryder's stats will benefit too.

Opposing teams won't know who to focus on during their Penalty-kill.

It would make for a bit more wide-open space and chances....
