Hints at that and that would be the educated guess. RT @sensmile11: @steffeG Does the article state next year is Frolunda?

Our 7th Round, 196th overall, in 2011. Terrific pick.

Before people get to excietd, he will play his first year in Frolunda so no development time in Bingo for Wikstrand. This may be the reason there was a stretch where it looked like the contract was not getting completed

We will lose the rights to :Francois Brassard (Trying to trade), Jarrod Maidens (Career over) come this June

Heard the name, but I don't know anything about the kid. A free asset is a free asset tho!

edit-- Well that explains why i heard his name, the damn team drafted him. I don't know why I assumed he was a college signing.

Doh

Sucks about Maidens though. Kid has been through a nightmare. Maybe one day when the medical issues are worked out he can try and rebuild his career.

Happy Happy.

Although I think they had to sign him or he goes to being a FA under the new agreement...

It means they like him though. They wouldn't just sign him because they were worried about him becoming a FA. Good news, although it would be nice if he played in bingo next year under Luke

I don't mind him getting a full SEL year in an increased role. Besides this past half season, he's never really been at a top pro level for a whole year. Especially with the Sens logjam, it can't hurt to go slow.

SteffeG, I remember reading that Mikael was playing first pp, but wasn't getting much ice time at even strength. Did that ever change later on or was he basically just a specialist to end the year?

Outstanding news. In a couple of years we'll see Claesson up as well as Wikstrand. Shoots Left I think, but hey, the whole corps does some nights.

Incorrect. See article 8.6d in the CBA. Players drafted outside North America at age 18 or 19 keep exclusivity till the fourth June 1st following his selection.

Wikstrand was drafted under the terms of the old CBA, hence the new CBA rules you cite above didn't apply to his status. Sens had to sign him by June 1st or he would have re-entered the 2014 draft.

Wouldn't he have been eligible to re enter last year if that were the case? Or did they have the same June 1st rule in the old CBA?

Isn't it common practice for SEL teams to give few ES minutes to rookies? I wouldn't read too much into his ice time this season.

im curious why Wikstrand signed with the sens if he re enterd the draft he could go to a team that doesn't have Methot - Cowen - Phillips - Wiercioch - Claesson ahead of him.

You won't find many better situations in this ice hockey league than that.

Is it confirmed by Maidens or someone close to him that he is retiring from hockey?

He hasn't played a game of competitive hockey in 890 days...he's done, doesn't need confirming.

What's with Brassard? Is it mutual or does he not want to be in our system for some reason?

Holberg would be the reason. He will take a spot. Hopefully we can trade the rights to Brassard but I doubt it, he can still have a career

There's a bit of a log jam at that position right now. Just signed Dreidger, Hammond has been looking decent, Hogberg waiting in the wings and coming soon. Only so many roster spots allotted for that position on any team.

I asked Steffe G on Twitter what's his upside, according to him he could be a top 4 puck moving PP guy, but still got long way to go, that was his answer.
