Speculation: Why Has Trouba Not Signed Yet?

McDonagh + Rangers 2017 4th + Rangers 2018 5th
for
Trouba + Jets 2017 2nd + Jets 2018 3rd

Can't really say no, because we would upgrade Trouba for very little, but then again... our defense is old. As of now, Trouba is the only U23 defenseman who's anywhere near our top 4. The other problem is his contract which ends after 18-19 season. Just like Wheeler's. Just like Laine's. Myers and Connor too, and that's after we have re-signed Ehlers, Hellebuyck and others... the cap crunch would hit us hard.

Trouba fits what the team really needs in so many ways that it would not make sense to ship him out, even if we got a good defenseman back. But then again, it's McDonagh. I'd do this.

How are you going to afford to give Shattenkirk $7 million per after giving Trouba $7 million per long term.

expect they both get 6m long term 7yrs, but not expecting Shatty here early.
Stepan and his NMC that would kick in after this season, he will be traded so it will not be realized. He is 6.5m, if we flip for smaller #s/futures, that cuts it.
