Let's face it. Leaf fans have the right to be miserable. You had Ballard peering down from the hole in the wall with that face he was breaking in for a bull dog. He hated the fans with the bags on their heads and said by the looks of their ugly faces they should be wearing bags. Then Leaf fans have had to endure a whole mishmash of fools running the ship that knew little about hockey. After all this along comes that clown mayor Ford. He is like a monster in a horror movie that can't be destroyed. He will be the mayor again after he eats Chow and John Tory. There is a chance he might choke eating Tory unless someone gives him the hind lick manouver. It's like Ballard cursed Toronto. The players are like a chicken with a spot of blood. One big mistake and the fans peck the life out of them. You can't blame them. They deserve something for the misery they have seen for almost fifty years.

because we aren't that good often, so when we get good players, peoples first instinct is to bash them.

I mean, some people bash Kessel, Phaneuf, have seen people bash Bernier. Heck, people bashed Sundin, Gilmour and Clark at times too (Clark/Gilmour less, due to the whole lack of places like HFBoards), but all received flack. They are all adored now.

Leafs Nation is the home of overreaction. Kessel is a bit husky, yet people call him fat, say he loves cookies, despite him being a pro athlete and one of the fastest skaters in the NHL. There's people who believe Gunnar is a better player than Phaneuf.

Leaf fans have no idea how to treat players until they are gone.

For the same reason we'll run Phaneuf out of town, for the same reason Kaberle was run out of town before him, and Brian McCabe before him. The list of scapegoats on the Leaf blue line over the years is a long one, once the fans (us) focus on one guy above all others as the culprit for our misery it doesn't matter a lick what he does to help the team. He's done. When we're losing, we need somebody to blame, it's as simple as that. We're not as bright when it comes to hockey as we like to think we are collectively. That's why we ran him out of town. Also, by sacrificing a Leaf blue liner we can ensure a bountiful maple syrup season.

Even a good player can look lousy on a bad team, something the Leafs management never seem to understand.
Ouch, so you think we could have not traded Kenny Jonsson and made sure murphy had help?

It's still a bitter, brutal mob.

When Ontario boy and self-professed Leaf fan would rather go play for Florida than re-sign here, I think that tells you everything you need to know about this market and it's fans.
This is a Canada wide problem. There has been no cup in Canada since 1993.

He was on the level of David Clarkson of SUCK.

Deserved to get his ass booed the **** out of town.

He often made costly defensive errors and was very slow and looked foolish and the Leafs were plummeting in the standings at the time and had no first round pick. Good for him that he found a fit in Detroit but he wasn't that good here.

Your post needs more hyperbole. In his first season, he had 61 points, nearly 2.5x the next D-man on the team and 6x what Clarkson had. No amount of defensive shortcomings makes him on Clarkson's level (especially since Clarkson has more shortcomings). During his two seasons, Larry was a -1 on a team with a ton of players who were under -10. As bad as he may have been, he wasn't responsible for Yushkevich's combined -38.

Someone giving Rob Ford the hind lick [sic] manoeuvre is an image I didn't need. And here I thought this was a family website.

Because most Leaf fans don't have a clue what a hockey player looks like.

Fans go after the people that let them down the most. The anger doesn't come from nowhere.
