Sure so would the Oilers.

Its so funny that you think that finishing 1st overall is not only guaranteed but that people can choose where they draft. They changed the 1st overall lottery rule because of the Oilers it will be much harder to do what they did.

Yet,it's funny how the NHL did nothing, after Quebec picked 1st overall, three years in a row.

Calgary Needs defence way more than they need forwards. defence wins championships. the fact that the few defencemen that were picked 1st overall werent the superstars you might expect a #1 pick to be is just the way it goes. a bunch of forwards who were picked 1st overall never panned out or lived up to what you would expect either but no one is guna stop taking forwards 1st overall. Ekblad has something no other 1st overall defencemen has: that is he was granted 'Exceptional Player Status' so he could be drafted into the OHL a year early and play an extra year of junior. Ekblad will be ready to step right in on the Flames blueline and play well.

Defence wins championships but only if its supported by goaltending and scoring. You need everything to win championships but particularily depth. Depth is what really wins championships in this league.
