The list is short at the moment imo. The rest have to prove they deserve it and a lot of them like Tierney, Brown, Zaitsev, etc. are just spare parts that will be trending down or ineffective in 3+ years.

Stutzle
Chabot
Tkachuk
Batherson
Norris

In that order is all I've got right now and Norris is partly there due to lack of center options in the pipe atm. I would include Brannstrom but am not convinced he gets a big role if DJ stays, so I think he'll be used as a trade chip at some point instead.

Honestly, if they can wrap No Lube Zub to a 3 year, $10 M contract I will be happy. I like the type of player he is, a defence first guy with sneaky offence. He has had a remarkable impact on the backend since he got included in the line up. Playing with Reilly, that's a testament.

From my pick of 7 players:

Stützle
Tkachuk
Batherson
Chabot

are the absolute core group, followed by

Norris
Brannstrom
Zub

I mean not including any of the non-NHL prospects in the pipeline, that's still a solid group of talent, although glaringly missing that number 1C (unless Süperstar is given the chance to prove otherwise) .

Goalies schmolize. All the goalies in the system have solid potential and I don't really see a clear cut number 1 goalie prospect yet, cannot really rank them as good as Daccord has looked in his start.

Colin White and Norris were hard ones for me ultimately voted that both should be here in 3 years by here i mean in nhl but in Ottawa I would prefer to have better players in the top 6.

On an island
Chabot/Chucky (future captains)
Stutzle (elite, young)
Bath (potentially elite, young)
Brannstrom (potentially elite, young)

Everyone else hasn't impressed me enough to warrant a near "untouchable" label.
Don't get me wrong Whitey, Norris, Paul and Zub have looked good but they're not core pieces. Good pieces to have to make the team better though

Can't believe we have votes for the goalies...Who knows what happens with that. It's a big question mark.

Stuetzle, Bathrson, Norris, Tkachuk, Paul, Chabot, Brannstrom and Zub.

Each of these forwards provide something legit. Chabot and Brannstrom speak for themselves, and Zub I feel can be a solid long term fixture on the 2nd pairing. I'd love to keep guys like CBrown back at a cheaper price, but I think we're better off packaging him off with other pieces for more established talent.

Why is everyone so down on Norris? he is a rookie in a division that has 3 of the four best centers in the NHL plus a few of the other top centers in the NHL he has held his own well this year
I don’t expect a jump as big as The Drake took but in two years he will be a hell of a lot better than he is now. And he was just as productive as Batherson in the AHL and he looks a little better than Drake looked last year.

There are ~5 people who voted Batherson, but not Norris. I wouldn't say the board is "down on Norris" at all.

I was pretty selective. Tkachuk, Stutzle, and Chabot are the only locks. Norris and Batherson are both extremely promising and progressing well. Brannstrom and Sanderson hopefully develop into key pieces on the blueline. I am less confident with goalies.

The root of all the issues Ottawa has had over last 5-10 years. He needs to be gone for us to do anything of real substance. Unless he starts spending big money soon.
Pretty much, this core will start getting expensive real fast...And he is out of excuses

I like DJ Smith, and I wonder if the Hoffman-Karlsson drama would have festered under his watch.

I think we should give him a chance with a talented team as well. Hard to deny that the team, despite being bottom of the league, is having a fun time playing and that the players have developed mad chemistry.

DJ DOES make adjustments, always shuffling the lines for example, but he needs to learn how to deal with having 2 aggressive forecheckers down low pressuring our D. That is imo the only real glaring issue with our systemic play.

Aside from the obvious, these are young players and the decision will be made based on whether they progress to being good or not. Even then there may be contract issues or whatever.

The only guys that look like must keeps at this point are Brady, Stutzle, Chabot.

Who would have thought, two years ago, that Nick Paul was a must keep?

  • Norris, Joshua - could end up being a great 2C, we absolutely require finding a TRUE 1C (2022/Shane Wright)
  • White, Colin - decent 2-way center, could end up being an elite 3C just like JG Pageau
  • Tkachuk, Brady - our true leader and future captain... top 6 LW just behind Timmy Stützle
  • Batherson, Drake - could end up being a 30/40 player as our 1RW
  • Brown, Connor - awesome middle six guy, if his contract demands don’t get too exaggerated he may end up as a perfect depth compliment and great looker room guy
  • Paul, Nicholas - our future PK specialist and bottom 6 LW
  • Zub, Artem - future Chabot partner as 1RHD...
  • Brännström, Erik - with the selection of Sanderson (#5-2020) he may finally get what he prefers and play on the right side with the shutdown Sanderson which would be preferable for a PMD/OFD
  • Chabot, Thomas - if he reaches his potential, may end up as of the best 2-way defenseman in the NHL
  • Daccord, Joey - his potential his high, may end up a full time NHL starter one day... but goaltenders are too much of a gamble.
  • Dorion, Pierre - I like what Dorion did with our team with the little bit of rope that Melnyk gave him.
the bottom line is... that team still requires to finish what was started and I truly believe that the next 2 drafts will do just that...

White, Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris, Paul, Chabot, Brannstrom, Murray.

I like Zub but I'd like a larger sample size.

People were saying the same thing about Wolanin based on a fairly small sample size too.

I vote for a lot of players but these are the Tier 1 and Tier 2 core pieces that I would want to still see in 3 years time

Tier 1:
Stutzle
Chabot
Batherson
Norris
Tkachuk
Brannstrom

Tier 2:
White
Paul
Zub
Dzingel
Daccord?

I agree with this. Tier 1 in the top 6 for the forward.

Tier 2 in bottom 6 role put still valuable to this team.

Im just excited to get some NHL level talent on the blue line around him in the next couple seasons. I think some people gonna be shocked at how much better he looks out there. He looks mentally exhausted sometimes lately, and I dont blame him.

Chabot is fine.

I'm really not getting the hysteria. He's the best defenceman in the division.
