Points over the last 3 years. Which one of these is not like the others?
Burns (60p, 75p, 76p) is average at best defensively. 43p at age 22, top pair d-man
Subban (60p, 51p. 40p) has been a good defender from about the start. 38p at age 21, top pair d-man.
EK (66p, 82p, 71p) has improved a lot over the years defensively. 59p at age 21, top pair d-man
Dumba (16p, 26p, 34p) is getting to be average defensively. Still getting protected minutes, no major PK duties.
Funny thing... Burns didn't hit 60pts until he was 29.

The 5 seasons for Burns before the 3 you listed?

20pts, 46pts, 37pts, 20pts, 48pts.

I think Dumba can be given a bit more time. He's already a 34pt 20+ min top 4 D-man, who is likely destined to be a top pairing player.

Also of note, you said PK was good from the beginning and showed he had 38pts at age 21, like it was some launchpad to stardom... but then fail to note that he had 36pts at age 22. Dumba is basically right there at age 22. 34pts vs 36pts.

Subban won the Norris in his 3rd full season in the NHL. Dumba will never sniff the Norris.

Dumba perfectly describes "The lights are on but nobody's home."

Well I could have used PK's 3rd full season for comparison it was 38p also, in 42 games and a Norris... Dumba isn't anywhere near PK at the same age in all around play. The original 38p season was his rookie year, while getting over 22mins a night.

Burns went through the is he a wing or d-man because he wasn't good defensively. 20p in 47 games (injured that year), 20p in the lockout season, 48p in 69g. Oh and his 6'5" frame.

I'm usually one to defend Dumba's defense growth. He's an average NHL defender now. But he's nowhere near a EK, PK, or Burns quality of player.

None of those players have been protected like Dumba has been so far in his pro career. Get rid of Spurgeon and put Dumba on the top pair, #1PK, and #1PP then maybe he could join the discussion with a Josi level of player. Right now he's just another a #4D/PP specialist.

He hasn't peaked by any means, and could turn into a Subban-lite. He'll never be another Burns, he doesn't have the build. He doesn't have the skill set to be another EK (nobody does).

Do you really believe Dumba can achieve the same level?
The point flew right over your heads. Those guys, specifically Burns comes to mind, take way more risks than Dumba. Would you consider guys who just take risks liabilities?

Yet nobody said he is right now, just that he absolutely has the potential to be!

You seem very sure about the future a 22 year old defenseman, which makes me wonder if you ever watched Burns play when he was younger?

Edit: I think Dumba -> Burns may be a better comparison than Dumba -> Subban

Brodin has the potential to be another Suter too. Dumba and Brodin are only a year apart. Dumba talk is mostly about his potential, and Brodin talk is mostly about what he currently is.

Right now Brodin playing his offhand is better all around RD than Dumba.

I disagree... he is significantly worse on his off hand these days IMO. He CAN play his off hand, but not near the level he plays on the left side. Dumba is better than Brodin on the right side. He isn't as far behind overall as you let on when both are in their natural position
