Vegas and Carolina. Sensible deals, abusing other teams and avoiding baggage.

I can’t limit it to three but these are the franchises that stand out to me.

Long term sustained success:

Tampa Bay
San Jose
Winnipeg
Washington
Boston
Nashville
Vegas
Chicago
Pittsburgh

Talks about long term sustained success...includes Vegas...doesnt mention St. Louis. :eyeroll:

Let's look at this another way:

I definitely meant to include St. Louis, that’s my mistake.

I was praising Armstrong as one of the top executives even last year, before the Cup.

The idea is to win the Stanley Cup and even with the Hedman injury it is inexcusable to be swept in the first round.

Something was missing in the makeup of the best team in hockey. Maybe something they should have acquired at the trade deadline.

Tampa is number 1, easily.
Top tier management group, with scouting; always get value in trades and always trade for value in other trades.

San Jose is number 2, easily.
GM always gets over on his counterparts, finds really, really solid additions through trade or player development, a team that should have been irrelevant years ago, continues to reinvent itself, engraining new young talent with their leadership core.

St Louis is number 3, easily.
This team should of had more deep runs a few years back, but were ultimately always bumped. Armstrong finds ways to improve the team; whether that's getting good hometown discounts for major role players, finding excellent value deals like ROR and Schenn.

You can go HM to Boston, because I like what they do too in terms of value and integrating youth. Always add nice pieces for their runs.
In terms of trending upwards; NYI, have a feeling they're going to make some major splashes here. I also like what NYR did over the past 12 months. Same as Colorado... I have a hard time putting them as a top managed group when they've essentially been a lotto team for a decade minus a couple seasons.

You wanna say the Penguins because of Cups and making the playoffs but getting Crosby and Malkin is just a luck of the draw sort of thing. Also firing coaches seems to be a key to success.

I don't know, they don't draft well, they sign dumb contracts but they have made some savvy trades (Kessel/Hornqvist).

Hard to ignore the results though, so I have stick with them.

I would put the Hawks, Bruins and Blues in a second place tie.

Fair enough, happens to the best of us.

Don’t really have any issue with the teams you listed, just thought including a team in the league for 2 years as an example of long term sustained success and not including the Blues was odd.

didn't vote for a third one because I think it's really close after that

Interesting how Boston and Colorado are considered by most as some of the best managed teams considering Sweeney and Sakic were considered some of the worst GMs for a while.
