So, for the tape to tape podcast guys, if Caps play Boston in round 1, bruins will upset Washington. So I am pretty sure they didn't follow the history between 2 teams in the past 5 years.

According to this model it's probably going to be the Leafs:

Not a bad matchup though I think I'd still prefer Ottawa or NYI.

Ottawa without Karlsson at 100% is by far the weakest team.

Leafs, there's a good chance we might be playing McBackup instead of Andersen. That makes it even easier.

I'm not banking on backups being easier in the playoffs. Any goaltender can catch fire for a few games. Neuvirth coming in sparked the Flyers last year. Murray was good enough to take us out in the 2nd round.

IMO the Leafs just aren't deep enough or experienced enough, which is why I wanted them in rd1 a few weeks ago. They could still ride a wave of momentum and rookie energy/naivete' and steal a game or two but overall I think they're just glad to be in the playoffs and will roll over when down a few games (which is what the Caps need lol)

ok leafs or bruins? who we want?

Much of the Bruins roster cant remember winning a game against the Capitals. Much of the Leafs roster has no knowledge of the playoffs. If the Caps roll into the playoffs playing like they have been recently they are a meat grinder.

Own Boston but Toronto is really young and inexperienced

Both should be quick 5 or 6 game series.

first round is dangerous. the last 2 times the Caps didn't take their first round opponent seriously they lost (TB and MTL)

Tb was 2nd rd?

right, my bad. NYR were so quick I forgot. :sarcasm:

Still, same idea. They later admitted they weren't taking TB seriously and before they knew it they were in a hole, and then swept.

Those Caps teams you're referring to were young and naive. I just can't see this Caps team not taking any opponent seriously this year. This is the moment they've been building for over the past two years. Ovie, Backstrom, and some of the other old guard know that this is the last hurrah with this group of players and quite possibly their best -- and last -- real chance at a Cup in their careers.

Can't recall if posted but Leafs expect Andersen back for the playoffs game 1
