Thought I’d try and wake some people up.

For the Wings things are not looking pretty. Not what you want to see when your team is rebuilding. I can’t remember the last time, if ever, the Wings had so few prospects still in camp at this point of the preseason.

When it comes to guys of note, only Jacob Joseffson and Mike Weber are still legitimately competing for a spot. I’ve got a couple others still hanging around but consider it unlikely they’ll make it.

The one pleasant camp surprise was Ryan Spooner who was just returned to Junior today. He had a great camp and had many, including the Bruins coach, commenting that he really impressed.

For the Canucks:

Alex Urbom - Very likely he breaks camp, probably as the #4 on the Devils. At least one rookie will make their blueline and he's the favourite. He almost made it last year and Lou considers him their best prospect. Big, mobile and poised beyond his years.

Brian Connelly - Has out-lasted Ivan Vishnevskiy and Shawn Lalonde, and been steady and impressive in camp in Chicago. He's probably 8 on the depth chart right now, but John Scott can play forward.

Zack Smith - Has had another very good camp and would be a lock if Ryan Shannon didn't have a one-way contract. Still, at least 75% chance he breaks camp.

Brian Bickell - He's got a one-way deal and played sparingly last year, but has cemented his spot on the wing in Chicago with a very good camp. Seems to finally have figured it out. I honestly didn't think he ever would.

Jeff Petry - First pro-camp, has drawn strong reviews, and has a chance at starting the year in Edmonton, but they'll likely be patient with him. Alex Plante has also had a good camp and has AHL experience.

Tyler Eckford - Was actually sent down today, but Lou said a couple of the demoted players could be back in Jersey for the weekend, that the demotion was for an AHL game. Eckford came into camp with a very good shot at a spot, but a death in the family had him home last week and so he hasn't dressed for a preseason game.

Tommy Wingels and Mike Hoffman are still in camp and have been very strong, but are longshots. Brandon Yip and Jason Demers are both 'prospects' by definition but have really only cemented they are graduating this camp.

Pelech in CGY might make the team, although Brodie is doing his best to bump into the line up.

Bowman in CRL might also make the tream.

Not sure how Petrecki in SJS, Aliu in ATL or Moore in CLB are doing or if they have been demoted yet.

For me, really only a few guys left, probably all long shots. Kind of hoping one makes it at least.

TJ Brodie - turning heads in Calgary, but probably still likely ends up in the AHL for seasoning

Jacob Muzzin - Looks like it's down to him and Thomas Hickey for the 6th spot in LA. My guess is Hickey gets it and he goes down.

Arturs Kulda - Competing with a bunch of guys for a third pairing spot in Atlanta. He's ready, but with so much depth he'll probably get demoted until an injury happens.

Benn Ferriero - Could open on the 3rd or 4th line in San Jose and hopefully stick this year, but from the sounds of things other guys in camp have played better.

Eric Wellwood is still alive in Philly, but I'm sure he'll be in the next round of cuts.

Nikita Nikitin - I picked him up as a bit of an afterthought and won him in a three team lottery, and he has come into St. Louis and put together a highly impressive preseason for them to the extent that he's battling with a few guys for a roster spot there. With the recent injury to Colaiacovo, his chances are looking pretty decent.

Pavel Valentenko - This one is a bit of a surprise, as the pipeline in the Rangers system is kind of tight but Valentenko's play this preseason has warranted attention. Tortorella really likes his toughness and he's a big strong kid with a bit of offensive upside as well. The fact that he's still around after the team released guys like Exelby shows what they think of him. It's going to come down to the wire with Sauer.

Jamie McBain - Seems like a relative lock. Not much more to say, as it was pretty much expected for him.

Zac Dalpe - Chances are not great, but still being on the roster at this point is reason enough to suspect that a roster position may not be far away. He hasn't been "highly" impressive, but he has done enough to keep eyes open. It will come down to Bowman, Boychuk, or Dalpe in my estimation.

Drew Schiestel - He's still hanging around, but the chances aren't looking good for him to make the final roster. Buffalo is fairly set on defense.

For the Devils:

Tyler Seguin is a lock.
Jared Cowen
has been impressive and may get a look with Kuba out.
Jeremy Morin has impressed in Chicago and may force his way onto the roster
Viktor Stalber has not been impressive but may have a spot
Travis Hamonic is still in camp, but will likely go to Bridgeport.

Derek Stepan: Has had a good training camp, could start the season centering Gabby and Frolov

Erik Gudbranson: Has been a workhorse for the Panthers this preseason, and will likely get a 9 game look.

Joe Colborne: Will likely start the season in the AHL.

Patrick Wiercioch: Will likely start the season in the AHL.

Mark Dekanich: Battling Pickard and Lindback to back up Rinne.

Tom Pyatt: Likely cracks the Habs.

Alec Richards: Probably cut after tonights game.

Francis Pare: longshot

Tim Brent: has had a good preseason, could crack the Leafs

Alexander Sulzer: could crack the Preds D, however hasn't been overly impressive and might end up on the outside looking in once again.

Paul Byron: Kind of surprised he is still around, likely cut pretty soon.

For the Kings:

Alex Pietrangelo - Has played well and logged lots of minutes with STL in preseason. Should start the season in the NHL, though Cole is right there pushing for a spot as well.

Brendan Smith - Wings fans are impressed with his offensive abilities, and saying he'll be a stud. But he will likely end up in the AHL to work on his defensive play which has been shaky.

Ryan Ellis - Still with the Preds, and may get the 9-game look. I personally think he'll be back in Windsor, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Colby Cohen - Battling with Shattenkirk and Holos for the last spot on the Avs, and is playing well. I didn't expect him to make the team so it's gravy if he does. Cumiskey may not be ready to start the season which would temporarily open another spot on the blueline.

Jack Skille - Looks like he'll make the Blackhawks. He's played average except for one game where he had a fire under his ass and played great. Hoping he can bring it every night in a bottom-6 forward role.

Clayton Stoner - He's still up and all summer long he's been pencilled in for the Wild's #6 dman job, and I think that's still looking to be the case.

Brad Marchand - He could make it or be a quick call-up for Boston

Oscar Moller - Will probably go to the farm. Was hoping he'd have a spot locked down by now.

Billy Sweatt, Jared Staal - May still be up but will be on the farm to start the season.

Kyle Clifford is still up with 19 forwards on the Kings roster, including 7 rookies. He has a chance to make it, but another season in the juniors to work on the offense wouldn't be a bad option.

Logan Couture is a lock in SJ. - MADE THE TEAM

Nathan Gerbe has shown flash in camp and will probably battle Ennis for a place on the roster. - MADE THE TEAM

Chad Kolarik is still in Columbus camp, but is expected to start in AHL. - Kolarik was cut on the 30th of September.

Mark Mancari is again close to making the Sabres. Will this be the year he makes it? - cut

With 14 forwards left on the roster, Nick Palmieri is still up with the Devils. The Devils will have to do something about the cap, but Palmieri is very close to making it. - cut

Mattias Ritola has a good chance to make the Red Wings, It's a tough task, but to be sent down he'd have to pass waivers. - cut by Detroit, but picked up by Tampa. MADE THE TEAM

Sergei Shirokov is still up with 19 healthy forwards on the roster for Van. - cut

With 14 forwards on the roster, Dana Tyrrell is still in Tampa camp. He's fighting Harju and Perrin for the last 2-3 places up front. -MADE THE TEAM

Roman Wick still has a long way to making the Ottawa roster. Ottawa still has 27 forwards on the roster. - Wick was cut and sent to AHL on the 29th of September.

Korbinian Holzer is still in the Leafs camp, but is expected to start the season in the AHL.

Jonas Holös is one of only 8 defensemen left in Colorado and one of 2 rookies. Cuminsky is injured, so there could be an opening there. - MADE THE TEAM

Steven Kampfer is one of 10 defensemen (3 rookies) in the Bruins camp. I doubt he'll make it all the way, but he should be one of the first call ups in case of injuries. - Kampfer was among the last cuts before the Bruins left for Europe on the 29th of September.

Philip Larsen is close to making the Dallas defense. He's one of 10 defensemen in camp. - cut

Kevin Marshall is most likely going to play another season in the AHL, as the Philly D is fairly deep.- cut

Robin Lehner is the goalie of the future in Ottawa. He has been great in camp again, but will probably start the season in AHL. With the problems that Leclaire and Elliott have had to stay healthy over a full season, Lehner should get some starts with the big boys this season. - cut

Thomas McCollum is still in the Detroit camp, but he'll spend the season as the starter in AHL and prepare for next season when there's an opening for a backup in Detroit. - cut

For the Blues, definitely one of our better rookie classes:

Jordon Eberle is a lock to be on a scoring line in Edmonton.

Lars Eller will make the Habs, but remains to be seen whether he is on a 3rd line, or makes his way into the top 6. More likely the former at this point. Ben Maxwell has played very well with the Habs in preseason, but is likely to be sent to the AHL at some point in what will be another year of back and forth between the Habs and the AHL.

Maxim Goncharov remains with the Coyotes, but will likely end up in the AHL as he gets accustomed to NA. He is competing with OEL amongst other veterans on one-way deals for the 6th and 7th spot, so doubtful. Viktor Tikhonov will remain with the Coyotes for the season, it looks like.

Jhonas Enroth remains with the Sabres, but seems destined for the AHL once again given Miller will play 70 games and Lalime has a one-way deal to Enroth's two-way deal.

Ian Cole remains in St. Louis and has an outside shot at a look early in the season, but more than likely will head to the AHL for a period.

Calvin de Haan remains with the Isles, but after his injury last year, seems likely to be sent back to Oshawa, even with Streit out. Meanwhile, Andrew MacDonald will be in the top 4 with the Isles for sure.

Jordon Caron remains with the Bruins and has played well, but likely to be one of the last cuts.

Frederik Pettersson has been the surprise of Thrashers camp and might actually secure a top 6 spot, but is at least, a very likely candidate to break camp with the team.

Jan Mursak remains with the Red Wings and has played very well in preseason, but seems like he will spend another year in the AHL given the Red Wings ever-present depth at the NHL.

Brendan Mikkelson looks like he might stay with the Duckes to start the season

TJ Brennan is still with the Sabres, but I suspect he will be headed to the AHL shortly, as they want him to be a big part of their farm club's top 4 and develop this year.

Erik Gustafsson is still with the Flyers, but will spend the year in the AHL as well it looks like.

Roman Josi broke his arm early in camp, so likely to start in the AHL given the Preds depth on D. Similarly, Yann Sauve was injured in a car accident pre-camp, and will start in the AHL undoubtedly.

Overall, 7 forwards, 7 d-men and a goalie still in camp, which is great to see, even if it will get cut in half over the next week.

Jonathan Bernier has a chance to make the Kings and possibly be the starter.

Marcus Johansson is still in camp competing for a 2nd or 3rd line C spot

Cody Eakin still with the big club but I think he gets returned to junior

Jon Rheault competing for a bottom
6 job. Probably an AHLer / call up

Jacob Dowell competing for a bottom 6 PK specialist.

Frazer McLaren looking to become the Sharks resident tough guy

Ryan Johanssen thinks he's still in camp but supposed to go back to junior.

Cam MacIntyre should be a call up once he gets back in game shape.

Tomas Tatar still in camp. Expected to get one more season in AHL. Should be a call up

Marco Scandella fighting for a 6,7 or 8th spot

Scandella and Boedker returned to minors. Eakin to junior

Dryden johanson has been impressive at camp playing top line

for Dallas

Casey Borer might finnally crack carolinas defense and give me some depth next year

Trevor Ludwig not sure how he's doing he might make Dallas this year another depth guy

Alex Plante will he finnally live up to his first round draft status and make Edmonton I can only hope so he was once a promising prospect

Alexander Burmistrov has had a great camp but
I wouldn't be suprised to see him set down to the ohl or ahl

Tyler shattock is also competing for a bottom six role in Stl and looks to be a
lock for a spot as he plays all forward positions

I'm not sure what's happening with other guys prosser, neimez, and the other two guys I signed this off season most likely they'll be in the ahl next year

TJ Brodie - turning heads in Calgary, but probably still likely ends up in the AHL for seasoning.

Another great game for Brodie last night. The only obstacle stopping him is that the Flames have 7 or 8 Dmen on one way deals this year.

Jacob Muzzin - Looks like it's down to him and Thomas Hickey for the 6th spot in LA. My guess is Hickey gets it and he goes down.

I went to the 8-3 win over the Ducks last night. First time I'd seen Muzzin. He's got an awkward looking stride but it doesn't seem to hamper him. Other than the stupid penalty with a minute left in the game, I would say he was better than Hickey for me. Saw some PP time on the first unit in the second and third periods.

Cam Fowler

First time seeing Cam Fowler in person last night at the Ducks v. Kings. He looks smaller than I imagined but boy is he a composed player. After the viewing I am surprised that he fell in the draft. Ducks got killed - and he took a bad high sticking penalty - but I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay up.

For the Predators the following prospects are still in camp:

Dustin Jeffrey - could start the season in Pittsburgh with Jordan Staal on the sidelines
Jonathan Matsumoto - competing for a 4th line spot on the Canes
Kyle Turris - should make the Coyotes and will get a look on the top two lines
Tony Romano - Hopefully can stay up in Bridgeport this season
John Armstrong - Still in camp - and yes injured again, but will play tonight
Alex Biega - Turned heads at the Sabres camp, but won't cut it on a deep blueline
Cody Goloubef - Can he be the surprise guy on the Jackets?
David Laliberte - huge comeback from back injury last season, probably still back to the AHL this year
Jacob Markström - Battling Clemmensen and Vokoun, but will probably start in the AHL
Andreas Nödl - Can good two-way play and zero offense land him a spot on the Flyers?
Rhett Rakhshani - Could help out the injury-shaken Islanders at seasons start
Matt Taormina - outstanding offensive instincts could make him a keeper for the Devils, but more likely is another season in the AHL

Mark Olver – still in camp with Colorado but finding his ice time dropping, probably headed for the AHL.

Ray Kaunisto – still in camp but injured in Anaheim so he's not getting needed pre-season ice-time

Bobby Butler – on the bubble for one of the final forward roster spots with the Sens.

Matt Bartowski – the revelation of the Bruins pre-season he has 4 points and is plus 4. Looks like he will make the roster as the 7th dman or be cut at the final hurdle.

Anton Khudobin – Looks like he will be the #2 goalie in Minny after Hardings season ending knee injury

Eric Tangradi – looks to have developed chemistry with pre-season line-mates Malkin and Comrie. Staals injury may open the door to a start on the Pens 2nd line.

Mikael Backlund – has had a very strong camp. Injuries to Langkow and Stajan mean he's been on the top line with Iginla and Tanguay. A lock to make the opening night roster.

Jeff Skinner – signed to a contract and having a great pre-season. Will start on Jussi Jokinens wing. "Jeff Skinner may actually be a little more physically advanced (than Eric Staal in his rookie year)," Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice said. "This guy is pretty powerful and has such a great skating stride."

Zack Kassian – turning heads big time for the Sabres – but his legal troubles mean he still has no contract. His physical play has been ferocious.

James Reimer – still in camp with the Leafs but unlikely to stick given the NHL goalies.

Andrew Kozek – still in camp in Atlanta but only because he's injured.

Grant Clitsome - has been good but isn't standing out. Luckily neither are any of the other bubble players on the Jackets.

Mike Moore - still in camp with the Sharks but is on the bubble.

David Schlemko - still in camp with Phoenix but is on the bubble - he's up against more highly touted young players but has the benefit of a quarter of a season with the Coyotes last year.

In other Flames news – two players I drafted in the 2010 draft but were undrafted in the NHL have earned entry level contracts. Trevor Parkes signed with the Red Wings and Andrew Crescenzi signed with the Maple Leafs.

Roman Wick has been impressive in camp for Ottawa, but there's a long way to making the roster. Ottawa still has 27 forwards on the roster.

I think the club has been pretty disappointed in Wick. They let him skip the rookie camp and touted him as a potential candidate for a second line spot, but he unfortunately played himself completely out of contention. Hopefully a little adjustment time is all he needs.

Obviously with how high I drafted him, I was shocked he fell like that.

I bet he gets 9 games and then it's up to his play if he sticks. Regardless, the Ducks are very very lucky.

Lucky Ducks.

Still in camp for the Jackets are:

D Ryan McDonagh, NYR -- Mcdonagh has had a strong camp and pre-season, and looks to have solidifed a spot on the blueshirts' bottom pair to start the season.

C/W Andrei Loktionov, LAK -- Loktionov is threatening to claim a spot in the Kings' top 6, and may eventually push Stoll down the depth chart; he's shown up healthy and competitive, while still displaying all the puck skills that made him a great mid-round gamble.

C Patrice Cormier, ATL -- Last year's lightning rod for controversy had won the Thrasher''s third-line center duties before breaking a foot while blocking a shot in a 4-on-4 team scrimmage. (That's right, the guy blocks shots in scrimmages.) He'll be slotted into the lineup in a few weeks once his foot heals.

D Mike Sauer, NYR -- Kurt's little brother is still in camp with the Rangers, He's had a solid if unspectacular camp, and while he will almost certainly be sent down with the last cuts, he will also be their first call-up in the event of a defensive defenceman going down to injury.

D Eric Gryba, OTT -- Gryba has stuck around in Sens camp longer than many expected. He's not seriously expected to make the opening day roster, but his steadiness, physicality, work ethic and simple play have earned him an extended stay in camp.

Plus G Semyen Varlamov, LW Max Pacioretty and D Carl Gunnarsson (if they still count as rookies) will all make their respective teams' opening day rosters.

Late cuts included:

LW Blake Geoffrion, NAS -- played well enough to earn a spot, but became a victim of numbers up front; he'll be among the first call-ups, and meantime will continue to win over fans in Wisconsin (this time playing for the Milwaukee Admirals)

C/W Zach Boychuk, CAR -- strong camps by Drayson Bowman and Jeff Skinner made it a tough call selecting a rookie forward to join the Canes' big club, especially ahead of Jiri Tlusty's one-way contract. He'll be an early call-up as soon as someone struggles or gets injured.

RW Mats Zuccarello-Aasen, NYR -- didn't look completely out of place, but will certainly benefit from getting adjusted to the North American game with lots of ice time in Hartford.

LW Carl Klingberg and RW Andre Petersson have already started their seasons in Sweden, and are playing well. They'll both challenge for NHL jobs next year.

Finally, it's good to see former Jackets picks Corey Crawford, Derek Stepan and Maxime Sauve having strong camps. Makes us feel good about our scouting, if nothing else!

Cal O'Reilly:Cal O'Reilly is trying to stick after tearing up the AHL (253 points in 260 games) for the last four seasons.

Bobby Sanguinetti:Will fight for 6th and 7th defence in Carolina.

Oskars Bartulis:Oskars Bartulis must prove they’re still deserving of a place on the team.

Carter Ashton:Yzerman indicated that they had a lot of discussion about keeping him. They thought he played exceptionally well. He said he’s strong enough to play at that level, he skates well enough to play at that level. The biggest thing with Steve is he understands the importance of development. He felt unless he could guarantee him quality minutes it was more beneficial for him to come back and contribute in our league and for our hockey club. We talked about stressing the importance of him being consistent and playing at the standard he set. If he does that with our hockey club he’ll have success and he should give himself an opportunity to be in consideration for the world junior team as well.

Jordan Schroeder; The Vancouver Canucks shipped their 2009 first-round draft choice to Manitoba of the AHL on Monday. The demotion was not a surprise, considering the intense competition for bottom-six forward spots and Schroeder's lack of pro experience. But the timing could have been better."He's got speed, he's got skill, but he's got to use it more," Vigneault told reporters. "He was sent [to Manitoba] with the right message. If he ever wants to play at this level, he's got to dominate that level. That's his next step.

"If he does that then in the future he may have a chance."

Nino Niederreiter
:Okposo's absence will likely mean a much longer look at top prospect Nino Niederreiter, who is almost certain to play the entirety of the nine-game sample stretch allowed under NHL rules. After that time the Isle will have to decide whether to keep him around or send him back to his WHL team in Portland.

Taylor Hall:No doubt he will be with the big team :handclap:

Jiri Hudler:prediction 60 points from Hudler this year.

Alexander Vasyunov:Whas sent down...but could be back.

Vladimir Zharkov: To get Devils roster spot, Vladimir Zharkov needs to find scoring touch or hew will start in the minors.

For the Canucks:

So for the Canucks, Urbom, Z. Smith, Bickell and surprisingly Tommy Wingels have all stuck. Wingels may end up in the AHL once the Sharks' Euro tour is done and/or when other players get healthy, but for now he appears to be an NHLer.
