He’ll help obviously but I think another top line centre to go with Zibanejad would be more ideal

Zibanejad - top 10 center
Panarin - top 10 winger
Kane - top 20 winger
Kreider - 1st line winger
Tarasenko - low end 1st line winger
Chytil - high end 2nd line center
Trocheck - 2nd line center
Kakko - 2nd line winger
Lafreniere - middle 6 winger
Goodrow - multiple cup winning bottom 6er
Vesey - versatile defensive bottom 6er
Motte - solid 4th liner

Fox - top 5 defender
Miller - low-end #1D
Trouba - physical 2nd pairing defender
Lindgren - solid 2nd pairing defender
Schneider - physical bottom 6 defender
Mikkola - stay at home bottom pairing defender

Shesterkin - shaky season but still top 6-7 goalie in the league
Halak - hot streak backup

The Rangers have all the pieces to win. Nobody is batting in the lineup above their level. Solid top to bottom.

Except a good coach , which is pretty important

You might even say "The New York Rangers are a perfectly built team this year!" ;)

And there it is.

Teams I'd least want to run into in a playoff series right now:
1. Boston
2. Tampa
3. Rangers
4. Avs
5. Canes
6. Leafs
7. Devils
8. Dallas
9. Oilers
10. Islanders

Call me crazy but I say best in the league. Their top 6 is insane and they have Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin in the back end. That's tough to beat.

I'd still rank BOS, CAR, TB, COL ahead of them quite handily. So I'll say top 5. Barely.

Quite handily my ass

That’s also how I view it. Plus their young core also has some experience from last year which should help.

You're adding Patrick Kane while taking really nothing away from the roster. On paper, I'd call them the best team in the league, but in hockey the best team on paper doesn't win all that often still, all things considered.
Myth or just a cliché people like to use. The best team on paper wins now and then.

This makes me think of a comment on a NHL.com FB-post the other day where someone said something about the President Trophy winner only (“only”) getting the cup about 8 out the 30ish last years. If that’s true it’s an argument for the President team being a lot more representated as the cup winning team than others, not an argument for some some kind of President trophy-curse.

Edit: Saw now you wrote “all that often all things considered” and not something like “best team on paper almost never win” so maybe I shouldn’t have directed this to you specifically. The general point is still a good one though in my opinion.

The Rangers have all the pieces to win. Nobody is batting in the lineup above their level. Solid top to bottom.

This is a very rosy and optimistic evaluation on some of these players.

Kane, Tank, Chytil, Miller are definitely not what you describe them as. Kane maaaaybe can turn it on and get back to that level. Tank isn't a 1st liner this year. Chytil is a decent 2C but certainly not a high end one. He's a player you want as your 3C, which is where the Rangers have him. Miller is not a 1D, full stop. He's just not there yet. Most would have him as a decent 2 or high end 3.

Laf is a 3rd line winger, not middle 6. He doesn't play at a 2nd line level right now.

they already score a lot of goals I don’t think he’ll move that needle as much as people think. His terrible defense won’t help. I’d still say top 10 team and a decent chance the Devils make them 1 and done and make those wasted assets in the Tank/Kane trades

Why does everyone assume that NYR/NJD is the first round matchup? Carolina only up by three points and have another game against NJD in Jersey.

They're going to load up and then get ousted by New Jersey in the first round.

But hopefully it'll help foster a rivalry? Or something? Idk the NHL playoff seeding is stupid.

Rangers are hard to gauge. They are either a speedy top performance bike or a bike that barely moves forward as the chain is rusty and grinds away.

This seems about right to me. I'd swap Tampa and Colorado, but still have Rangers 3rd, and the tier of 2-6 behind Boston is pretty close (think there's a dropoff to the Devils).
