Semi-realistic in this lifetime, but would take a lot of convincing for the wife to be onboard? Nissan GTR.

Completely unrealistic? McLaren P1
At one point on the Massachusetts Turnpike on Saturday I had a Nissan GTR, C8 Corvette and Porsche 911 Turbo on three sides of me. I felt so inadequate.

Another couple I'd love to have one day:

Ferrari 308 (Late 70's) - Just love the look of these things.

God almighty I love the 308. One of my all-time favorites.

If I had the money to be a car collector, I'd be a Ferrari guy. Their vehicles just speak to me in a primal way that no other car does. I'm well aware that 1) I will never afford one; and 2) Ferraris are...not flawless automobiles to say the very least. But maybe it's the Italian ancestry, or midlife crisis genes, or being a nondescript bore in life except to my kid, I don't know, but Ferraris affect me on an emotional and spiritual level unlike any other brand. When I was a kid, Ferraris were the dream and nothing else came close.

If I sat in a Lambo, I'd be pumped. If I sat in a Porsche, I'd be pumped. If I sat in a Ferrari...I'd probably cry because it would touch me in a way that simply no other car brand ever possibly could.
So did the driver of the Corvette.

SHOTS FIRED

I actually really like the look of the C8 Corvettes, and they are an incredible performance value for the price. However, they have one fatal flaw for me, and that is no manual transmission option.

Yeah, that's also one of the many problems with the new iteration of the GT500 they're making too. Obviously it doesn't even look like a Mustang anymore first and foremost, but the lack of a manual transmission is appalling.

Glad I got my GT500 when they were making them right. ;)

Yup.

Like I've said many times, I know dual-clutches are faster. That's not debatable, that's an objective fact. I have no problem with those that prefer autos. However: lacking a manual transmission option for certain vehicles, while understandable from an economic POV, feels to me a little bit like you're losing your driver car soul.

I think about this thread on occasion, and I realize there is no one single car I'd be able to pick out here.

I'd want different cars for different purposes, some (Porsche 911 GT3 in Shark Blue w/PDK and high wing, Viper ACR with Aero package, Lexus LFA) almost exclusively for the track, while others (such as a giant legion of Ferraris, spanning different eras, engines, transmissions and colors) for track+summer GT stuff (depending on the car), and still others for winter driving, towing and family escorting.

One thing I can say confidently is that from an enthusiast perspective I greatly prefer naturally aspirated engines to forced induction, especially at the track where I want both that predictability of power delivery and the sound. Also, the only single-clutch automatic permitted in the sports car stable is the LFA because the LFA 1) is the greatest Japanese car ever made; 2) sounds kind of like an old-school F1 car; and 3) the transmission is so incredibly connected to the road and driving experience despite being an auto.

EDIT: OK, I'll also allow an Aventador SVJ into the single-clutch auto stable. Why? Just listen to it.

I'd 100% opt for a compromise car if i had to pick just one. Audi rs6 avant in a nice sleeper grey metallic. twin turbo v8 grocery getter. 0-60 3.1, 190 top speed, and nearly a g on the skidpad which is pretty fantastic for a 5000lb wagon.

Yeah something like that or a Panamera Turbo S would be a good bet.

2017 Chevy SS - 6.2 L V8, 415 HP

I actually have this car in dark gray, just like in the photo. It's a 4 dr sleeper with a Camaro LS3 engine.

The only other car I think of as a dream car is the BMW M5.

wasn't there a recently discontinued Australian badged version of this that's even more extreme? I cannot think of it off the top of my head but car guys bring it up now and then.

why most bike guys have more than 1 bike ,all depends what your doing that day . I have a motocross bike with a plate for local duty and fun,it literally turns the world in to your personal playground. Even found a nice little jump right on the way to the store lol.
I have an adventure bike for just mile munching with knobby tires for dirt roads . 50 mpg and fun as hell.
NA cars are better however im 10k feet in elevation and a NA engine losses around 30% of power that a turbo doesnt suffer from. Most are claibrated around sea level and just work harder to make the required boost. Im near pikes peak and turbos ruled the land before electric cars. Electric makes perfect sence for hill climb. No over heating [ less air in the air for cooling] no HP loss. Lots of weird stuff happens at elevation especially cooking but thats for another thread.

how reliable are these? simple maintenance and not a lot of electronic shit that will go wrong? always seemed like the ideal for post societal collapse mobility/practicality.

Oh trust me, I could get that list of cars up to more than 20 fairly easily.

But I realized that I wouldn't have time to drive them all, and some cars like the McLaren F1 are far too valuable to actually drive. Also, I am of the opinion that some exotics now are actually too fast to enjoy on the road anyways.

I'll reply later with a "dream garage" in which I would actually use each car and not let any go to waste.

EDIT: Also, I live at like 100 ft elevation so forced induction can kiss my ass. My daily driver is turbocharged but if money's no object I don't want anything turbocharged in my dream garage. Turbochargers are a sock in the mouth and I like the screamers.

Station wagons need to come back in the US. Enough with the crossovers and SUVs... Sport wagons are way better!
Agree. All the crossovers are looking the same these days.

And I'm trying to think of the last true wagon.... the dodge magnum??
