Whatever happened to Mike Ribeiro?

Problems with drugs and alcohol, in and out of treatment, refused to get more help, nobody wanted him playing for their team in or out of the NHL, and mysteriously retired unofficially. That was 2 years ago.

Any idea what he's up to? Getting better? Playing for anyone? Pursuing treatment? Anything?

Former #Preds Center Mike Ribeiro stops by to chat with Pekka Rinne & his former teammates. He’s coaching youth hockey in the area. Warm reception. Lavy came by with a big hug.Mar 10, 2018

I will always remember Mike Ribeiro scoring that OT goal against NYR in the 2013 playoffs.

Whenever I hear his name I instantly remember this clip

Guys who do crazy skilled stuff like this just for the f*** of it and are actually able to pull it off are a dying breed.

This is saying nothing about him as a person or who he was off-the-ice, but I honestly don't think I've ever disliked a player for his play as much as I disliked Ribeiro. He was a very talented player, but he was like a checklist for everything I hate to see in a hockey player. Soft, low effort, zero defensive accountability, selfish, whiny, dives.

I know last year ( early 2019 or end of 2018) they couldn't find him, they just lost trace of him and they were trying to find him.

not sure what happened after that

I thought this guy was the long-awaited answer to the Caps 2C problem. I wonder what would have happened with him if he didn't chase the money and go to the Coyotes. Seemed like he enjoyed his time in DC and was pretty stable here... it all went downhill when he went to Arizona.

Now there's a phrase you rarely see.

I never liked him as a player but the guy is struggling with a substance abuse problem that ended his career and destroyed his life.

But sure, laugh it up guys.
