I know you guys had decided to hand off the GDT choice to @Gocanes0506 but with his blessing I am going to step in and do a one off for tomorrow's game because I need to. I have not done one before but I hope you'll understand once it's done.

I'd put Nino back with Staal and Fast, those 3 were an absolute force together and I'd like to keep it that way when fully healthy.

Also, where's the good Marty???
Im assuming we have Nino back for Vegas. Necas is probably back for Anaheim.

then what when Necas is back?

JK-Stepan-Marty/Lorentz

what a deep group. We would be trolled for paying a 4th liner 6 million. This team is so deep it doesn’t matter.

Both the Ducks (7-1-2 in their last 10) and the Kings (7-2-1 in their last 10) will be tough matches.

Honestly, with it being West Coast games against difficult opponents, I wouldn't be surprised if we finished the trip with a losing record. It's not like we've been dominating games lately.

I agree that those will be tough games. Re: the team not dominating games lately, the last 4 opponents have been really solid teams (FLA, TB, PHI, and STL). We aren't going to always dominate teams like that.

True, but the games against Chicago and Arizona weren't exactly stellar examples of what this team is capable of either.

They absolutely dominated Arizona. Completely carried the play and just had trouble beating the goalie, but the Canes were the dominant team that game by far even if the score didn't show it. That happens some times.

The first game against Chicago (before the AZ game), the Canes dominated, the 2nd game (after the AZ game), was close, but since Kane has been back, Chicago can be a tough out against anyone. Since Kane's been back here's how Chicago has done:

OTT: W 5-1
CAR: L 3-4
WPG: L 1-5
NSH: W 2-1
PIT: W 3-2
AZ: W 2-1

^ Also I'd say we had stretches of dominance against the Flyers and Blues, even if we had a lull here or there. I like lurking on other teams' threads after a game, and routinely the posters say their team looked "awful", "lazy", and "had a horrible power play" against us. A lot of that just means we played really good defense. Same goes when we play hard but aren't scoring against another team. We can't always score 5. A very good team does better than 3 goals per game. An elite team does 3.5 goals per game.

I hope we win 4 of 6. It's completely unrealistic to expect that we win the next 6 games, period. I mean I hope it happens, but it's just... unlikely. Every team is hard to play against. No team wins all 82. In 2019, the 2nd best team got 107 points. Let's pick Boston - they went 49W, 24L, 9 OTL. So they won 60% of their games. That means they go about 6W, 3L, 1 OTL per every 10 games. Or, put another way, they win 1.5 games per every game they lose. So they win 3 and lose 2, and some of their losses are in extra time.

I want to win the next 6, but I expect a great team to take 4 of them.

The Flyers game pissed me off largely because it's a game we absolutely should have won. Hockey is weird and will occasionally screw even a very good team over (especially in the NHL and especially in a hot-goalie scenario).

As a fan following the team day by day, it's going to take a mental adjustment to get used to thinking in those terms. No matter what, we're going to lose something like 40% of our games. That means we're due for some losing streaks which will seem totally unacceptable while they're happening. Fans of contending teams always seem really pissy over trivial losses, and this is why.

If we can beat everyone except Vegas and one of the Cali teams I'd be okay with that.

I really want to beat Philly the second time around, I don't like losing to metro teams even if we are in first place at the moment.
