Meh Sammy was worse IMO we let the bad one go

Vanacek let go again

V was solid but had health issues and couldn't stay on the ice

Now trade Samsonov for Puljujarvi or Sandin! or more picks, whatever. Just punt on these two and start over. Plug Fucale in as a backup for league minimum

Well start the Holtby returning rumors.

Evidently Caps have someone they want in the second round and don't want to chance them not being there at 46. I'm okay with this.

Definitely a bit curious, mostly given that you'd think of the two Vanecek would have been the cheaper to retain as a back-up. Maybe they've decided to move both. Or maybe Samsonov remains in more of a modest 1a/1b setup with a cheaper option and they give yet him another shot at it.

Keeping Vitek would indicate they are planning to get a no.1 or at least no.1 a.

Trading Vitek means they are only planning on getting a backup or a no. 1 b

So for that reason, I don't like the trade.

At least Caps fans can now only complain about 1 goalie instead of 2
Get rid of Sammy and Caps fans will be happier... having no starters?!?

Nice to see some movement though, seems like they may have something coming down the pike in a starter

Did it ever come across that Vitek numbers made him the better trade value? I don't think Sammy has good trade value at the moment.

Caps could still get a #1 goalie and Sammy backup. Sammy is only age 25. He needs some work on his maturity level, so it would do him a lot of good to humble him by learning from a vet #1. The Vitek/Sammy combo was the wrong approach from the beginning it started.

The Winnipeg Jets' second-round pick went to the Washington Capitals as the result of a trade on June 28, 2014 that sent a second and third-round pick in 2014 (44th and 74th overall) to Buffalo in exchange for this pick.[24]

Sammy is 26. He could be a number 1 by 28 which is a good age. Vanny was a backup But good value. His caps hit of less than the leauge minimum is why we traded g to get them back. Now seeing the picks we win this trade. As an aside ESPN+ gave caps an A- and NJ a B+. Win win.
