Russian roster will have at least 5 Superleague players. It's kind of funny how people on HF boards just list the best Russian in the NHL thinking that will be identical to the actual Russian team.

exactly my thoughts

they forgot how Kharitonov and Sushinsky owned the Canadian defense in 06

His services were declined despite his desire to play in Moscow not too long ago, what makes you think that he will suddenly become sought after in three more years? I am fairly certain that the national team will not be too interested in a 37 year old Kovalev.

That is hard to say. If a 37 year old Kovalev is playing like the 35 year old Kovalev he will be there and likely be on eof the best players on the team. At this point in time it is safe to say he is not a lock, but to say he probably won't be there is equally misguided.

Sweden 2010:
Looks like a contender. Solid 2-way forwards, awesome defense and really good goaltending. But 2014 and 2018 would probably be a bit better, looking at the currently deep prospect pools of the 87-92's.

I think it's kinda funny how people consider Russia a threat to win.......anything.

Since the Olympics went PRO - how many Golds have they won? "0"

They haven't won't the World Championships since '93 - 15 years and counting, as well as failing twice at HOME.

Got destroyed in the "Super Series" 0-7-1

They have lost the last 3 World Juniors to Canada, being outscored an atrocious 15-3 count........

I fear Congo more.....:biglaugh:

If Spezza does not make then 2010 Olympics i will surely be surprised.

Hes the 2nd/3rd best center in the league atm, with Lecavalier and maybe Crosby ahead of him.

I also think Wade Redden will be on team Canada as well.
that said team Canada is stacked

Sweden is as well.

As some other have said, you won't be seeing Zubov, Yashin or Kovalev.

Also, can some Russian posters tell me if N. Kulemin has the chance to make Team Russia's roster, because I defiantely can see him making it.

If so, then replace Yashin and Kovalev with Cherepanov and Kulemin.

Maybe Danis Markov too.

Besides being a Leafs prospect... why do you think Kulemin has a chance?

Let me guess, you also think that Heatley, Fischer, Phillips, and possibly Emery should be on the team? :biglaugh:

Kulemin was named MVP of the 2006-2007 RSL season. Like how Joe Thornton was named MVP of the 2005-2006 NHL season. :help:

Also, Kulemin played on a line with Ovechkin in the 2007 IIHF World Hockey Tournament for Team Russia.

Spezza is a great player, but his problem is that Canada is probably deeper at center right now than they have ever been.

Crosby, Lecavalier and Thornton are all simply a class above Spezza. Spezza is in the second tier of canadian centers with guys like Sakic and Staal. Given Spezza's defensive deficiencies I cannot see Canada taking him along as a fourth line center.

Nash - Crosby - Lecavalier
Heatley - Spezza - Iginla

extras: St. Louis & Briere

Pronger - Phaneuf
Bouwmeester - Weber
Seabrook - Regehr
extra: Phillips

Luongo
Brodeur

edit: I did not include Sakic on the roster because I think he may retire before 2010... but if he is still playing put him in E. Staal's spot and remove Briere

Stastny is American and will play for Team USA if he plays for anyone.

let me remind you that since the Olympics went PRO, Canada finished 4th in Nagano ... and 7th in Torino

what a threat too

objectively, the top 7 countries have an equal chance of winning the gold

in 3 "PRO" Olympics, there were SIX different finalists

Any chance we'll see Rask on Finland? Should have a starting job here in Boston before 2010.
its possible but one would have to assume for now that Kipper and Lehtonen are the favorites to be 1/2

I'm not German (or a scout), so there's likely a significant number of mistakes here (the defense and goalies are probably the most accurate guesses though)..

2010 Team Germany

Hecht - Goc - Strum
Lewandowski - ???? - Kospelt
Braun - Schutz - Gogulla (This line might be too young)
????? - ????? - ?????

Schubert - Ehrhoff
Seidenberg - Sulzer
S.Goc - ????

Greiss
Pätzold
Müller
Kolzig (maybe #1 if he's actually still playing (well))

Forwards

Heatley-Crosby-Iginla
Nash-Thornton-Spezza
Toews-Lecavalier-St. Louis
M. Richards-Sakic-Getzlaf

Substitutions: Staal, Bergeron, Perry

I don't know any general rule on centres taking the wing, but I think Mike Richards, Getzlaf, Spezza, Toews need to be on the team, so even though they're all centres, Yzerman should make it work.

Defence

Phillips-Pronger
Phaneuf-Niedermayer
Bouwmeester-Weber
Redden

Tough call on defense, I'd say that Pronger, Phaneuf, Niedermayer and Bouwmeester are pretty much locks. There are so many young defenceman that could fit in there between the 4, with Redden and Phillips rounding it out.

Goalies
Luongo
Brodeur
Price

Luongo starts, Brodeur is there for the veteran support, Price is there for the new experience.

YOW
i like most of your picks, but not your lines. Here's how i'd rework it.
Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Heatley-Spezza-Getzlaf
Staal-Lecavalier-St. Louis
Perry-M.Richards-Morrow

Substitutions: Bergeron, Toews, Briere

i took out thornton, because i think that in 2010, Crosby, Lecavalier, and Spezza will be clearly better than him. Added in Morrow, because like it or not, he is top 30 in the league in scoring right now, and solid defensively. Canada allways carrys a defenive-type line, and he would be a good fit. If sakic plays, he will be on the bottom line in place of Perry, but may shift richards to the wing.

Bouwmeester-Pronger
Phaneuf-Phillips
Campbell-Weber
Ranger/Beauchemin

i think its very likely neids will not be playing. Redden will be on the team if he regains form, but until that happens, lets not pencil him in or anything.

Luongo
Brodeur
Price

like the goalies. If price isnt ready yet, i expect turco to be there.

Russia is also the only team to play for a medal in all 3.
