Tommy Tuberville a defensive assistant coach with the
Miami Hurricanes from 1986-1992 and the defensive coordinator in 1993 has been elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama. Tuberville defeated incumbent Doug Jones who was elected narrowly in a special election in 2017 over controversial Republican Roy Moore.
In the eight seasons that Tuberville spent on the Miami coaching staff, the Hurricanes went 87-9. Miami was 9-3 with Tuberville as the defensive coordinator in 1993. Tuberville oversaw a Hurricanes defense that continued the dominant tradition that had been the case over the previous 10 years.
The
1993 Miami defense allowed 13.9 points per game which finished seventh out of 106 FBS teams. In two of the three Miami losses in 1993 the defense let the Hurricanes down. Miami suffered a 28-10 loss to Florida State and a 29-0 loss to Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl.
