Ok, a round of updates processed. All trades and all retirees/euros should be current. Some free agent signings processed, BUT NOT ALL. The player database file somehow became corrupt. I was getting a runtime error and the sim crashed everytime I tried to add a new player to any team's roster. Because of that, I had to revert to a backup copy of the files from before some of those updates went through. No worries though, everything will be sorted out :)

Thanks Sean.

You probably already know this but in case not released prospect are still on the futures page.

One other note Jordan Parise has gone to Europe (I'll add it to the appropriate thread)
http://tsf.waymoresports.thestar.com/thestar/hockey/player.cgi?4344

Ok, Parise to Europe will be in the next update. Prospect releases should be pretty close to accurate, but teams that were missed or submitted late still need to be updated... I'll get that next update (prob. tomorrow)

Everything should be current now, including lingering prospect releases and prospect signings. Rachunek has also been moved to Chicago's prospect list.

Please check for Euros and/or retirees that still need to be removed.

Hasnain- If you could, just keep going right now the spreadsheet for prospect signings instead of sorting by team. That way I won't have to search through the whole list when they start pouring in.

Looks like I accidentally sent them to your roster instead of Toronto. Contract lengths will be updated next week.

Straka should be on Toronto's Prospect List not mine. I should have my 4th back in 2010.

Please refer to this in the blog. Dated Sunday 22nd June 2008

TO CAR: F Martin Straka, Future Considerations*
TO TOR: CAR 4th 2010
*If Straka has not retired or left to play in Europe before Game 1 of the 2009-10 Season, CAR 4th 2010 is returned to Carolina.

I'm confused as well, Sean...

If that's supposed to read "If Straka has retired...", I think the deal should be invalid, as Carolina risks nothing in the event that Straka stays retired or in Europe. It would basically be a deal of Straka for future considerations, and I believe we've ruled before that future considerations can't be the only compensation in a deal.

Hey fellas,

Doesn't happen often but Cohen actually has an opinion on this matter... :p:

I understand having "future considerations" banned from being the only tradeable asset in a deal. However, this was before the newly cashed up KHL. I feel we are going to see a lot more of the radulov deals happening and to me this seems a little unfair as the risk of trading for 2nd 3rd line european players now seems a severe risk. I think we should review this rule imho as I definately will not be giving up a guarenteed asset for a player who's eligibility is a near certain gamble, especially if i am relying on given player to be a major factor for the upcoming season. If we dont, the value of these players is going to fall dramatically which i feel is unrealistic.

Aight, cheers blokes, hope everyone is well. All the best.

But is it really unrealistic?

I think that in the NHL now, the value of these European "average" players will decrease significantly, in comparison with a similar player of North American heritage. A guy like Shean Donovan immediately becomes more valuable than a guy like Josef Vasicek or Sergei Brylin (before they left for Europe).

IMO It's more buyer beware.

+1

Cohen- I completely understand and agree to an extent with your post.

"I definately will not be giving up a guarenteed asset for a player who's eligibility is a near certain gamble"

Agree on that... I'm in the same boat, and I'm sure a lot of GMs are, which is why its nice that we have the option of not trading for players in that category. As Brock said: Buyer beware. There should be some sort of risk trading for (or signing) a player that has a high risk of playing overseas, just like it would be in the NHL.

Also agree with Brock that the value of players that have a higher chance of going overseas will change the way NHL GM's are thinking as well. Makes it more realistic that we may have to change our planning as HFNHL GMs when it comes to acquiring potential KHL players.
