Why is His buyout just 6.66? He was owed 13mil the next 3 years, 2/3 that would be around 8.5 so he should be getting 1.5 not 1.1 a year from the Rangers? 2.5 for 2 years is better than 3 but still sucks.

You know it's a bad idea when every single fan posting about the potential signing is laughing.

Is there still some room for Sergachev?

There is a second rounder at play here...

That is ass. Pure ass. That is not a cup contending defense - that's a mess.

On top of that, our offense isn't deep either. Not good for TBL right now.

It would be hilarious if he end up being good with them. But I doubt that so thanks for taking the bullet Tampa.

Sigh.. I'll just reserve judgement.

If it is 2 years 1.5-2 AAV and they play him on the bottom pair, then it's whatever, I guess. I'd take that over 6 years 45 mil or whatever Shattenkirk ends up getting.

It will be a dumb signing, but barring a ton of money and/or a really prominent role, then it doesn't seem like it'll be very impactful.

That being said, I don't understand it. Like... at all.

That top pairing can eat a lot of minutes though. It's elite.

So what. We had those guys anyway. We took a step back on offense trading Drouin.

Now he's signing veteran garbage to "mentor" a bunch of kid.

Doesn't really scream 'contender' does it?

So Girardi actually go 2.1 from the Rangers this year. The buyout is calculated as 2 thirds of the salary plus any signing bonuses.

So he would be getting 10 million in salary in total, plus 1 million in signing bonus per year if he wasn't bought out.

2/3 * (10) = 6.67

6.67 / 6 years = 1.1

But he would still get his scheduled signing bonus of 1 million in addition.

He's a player who has lost a step and can't be a top pairing D yet was deployed as one with a player who makes risky plays, and left him covering up which he just couldn't do.

Yeah that McDonagh sure makes a lot of risky plays and left Girardi hanging out to dry.

Jesus christ...

I doubt he makes $4M from TB. If he had that kind of value the Rangers would have traded him there for FC and retained $1m.

I hope you're right. If you're not, it could mean Yzerman wants to give him more than the, what, two years that were left on his contract? :help:

So woken up feeling today was going to be a good day, Shattenkirk signing for us, maybe even Williams would have been decent. Instead I am waking up to the new that Yzerman has given Dan Girardi a new year deal worth around 3 million. Think I am going to go back to bed.
