At the UNB town hall, that just finished, to answer a question they said that an announcement of varsity athletics should be coming from AUS, maybe even by Friday. UNB is not going to say anything before AUS or USports announcements.

Saint Mary's just announced that they will have no face-to-face courses in the Fall term. Only online delivery. Yet there residences will still be open. I wonder how this affects student-athletics?

speculation that fall sports will not happen and that games will only start in the new year.

I can certainly see football not being played. Or rugby. Sports that are really close contact and crowded. The players Could all wear masks and use hand sanitizer after every scrimmage/scrum. But, I don't see that happening.

LD Oliver Leblanc

Was just looking through ex-Blue Jackets draft picks and came across him. A bit of a dip from his second season with the Varsity Reds when he had 25 points in 2018-19.

Any indications that he will play pro hockey in the future? Obviously, everything is up in the air right now with the shutdowns, etc.

Olivier dealt with some injuries this season that affected his ice-times and points production. Like most players at UNB he will probably wait until he finishes his degree before going pro. Almost all UNB players hope to play pro after graduation - just a question of at what level. Most of them can play ECHL, some at AHL. Some instead opt to go to Europe for a more cultural experience.

Brady Gilmour, C

Was just going through the old Red Wings drafts. Noticed Gilmour scored at almost a point-per-game pace for the Varsity Reds in his first season of college hockey as a 21-year-old.

Admittedly, UNB once again dominated their league but is there anything to take away from his first season?

Considering Gilmour could have still played his overage Junior year last season, meaning he had one year less Junior experience than his peers at UNB and in the AUS, he made, to me, a very smooth transition to AUS hockey. His solid play earned him a spot on UNB's power play. He made few, if any, mistakes, and what made him stand out is that he didn't stand out. He played like a veteran player. My guess is that his hockey IQ is through the roof. I believe he was the only UNB rookie that dressed for every game. I can only see him getting better at UNB.

D Connor Hall

Former third round pick played for Team Canada as an 18-year-old but was never signed after injuries during his junior career.

Any update?

Any update?

Connor joined UNB after Christmas, and adapted fairly quickly to UNB's puck-pursuit, puck possession game. He has made a few defensive gaffes while getting caught joining the rush, but that could be expected as he adjusts to UNB's style. Most importantly, he managed to stay healthy while not shying away from the physical game. He was being groomed to fill the place of graduating(ed) captain Marcus McIvor - a tough, penalty killing specialist. Hall loves to chirp, incessantly, and was tested by most of the agitators in the conference. Since there is minimal fighting in the AUS he doesn't need to drop the gloves. Talking to Connor he had a lot of fun in his half-season of hockey.

UNB still hasn't officially announced Outhouse. I imagine they wanted to stash him away and not promote it until he was eligible. Interesting that one of his sisters will be playing for UPEI this season.

I just remembered, after reading the article, that at the time Bob Stauffer was pretty steamed that the Jets "stole" Outhouse from the Golden Bears with an AHL contract. I guess they inadvertently did UNB a favour.

In case you missed this bit in UNB's official announcement on Griffen Outhouse.

“Our present goalie combination just completed a fantastic season,” he said. “Rylan Parenteau is going into his fourth year of Engineering while Sam Harvey, the Atlantic University Sport playoff MVP, has fast-tracked his degree and will be eligible to graduate in the spring.”
Looks like Sam Harvey might be another Michael Ouzas.

Posted about this a couple years ago, does anyone have , or know of someone who would have the 2004 Semi Final game against Alberta or the 2007 National Final game recorded ? I have been trying for years to find these games, literally get goosebumps thinking about rewatching that UofA game, probably the greatest moment I’ve ever had as a sports fan, and without a doubt the greatest hockey game I’ve ever seen at any level. Would be much appreciated if someone could steer me in the right direction !
