Tony,

There was a misunderstanding at that time regarding the length of the contract. The general rule is that you can offer a player 4 year deal if he is 25 or over. However, an agent has full right to seek a shorter term deal if he feels that his client has a potential to make much more after one season in the NHL.

I've got one little issue with all that, after reviewing the Mottau story. I originally offered a deal of 450k for 2 years. Later it was changed to 1 year at 450k and i re-signed mottau at 700k for this upcoming season. Then i traded Mottau to the Penguins and had to pay a 700k penalty cause he was a re-signed UFA.

So considering the original contract offer was 2 years and it was changed because of a misunderstanding of the rules, is it possible to get penalty of 700k back?
