If by a few months you mean another full season. He'll never make it to UFA.

Oh well. Nothing lost, nothing gained. That's assuming Wings would see any gains after subtracting what they'd have to give up in a trade. Wings aren't a Trouba away from really anything. They'd need at least two more(preferably one of those being a super Trouba), just to see any tangible difference in how the overall D performs.

I agree partially. The Wings would definitely gain. The chance of any defensive prospect turning out to be as good as Trouba is now are absolutely minuscule, so it would certainly be a gain for Detroit. That said the Wings still aren't a good team even with Trouba.

I think most would be surprised with the possibilities of a Detroit team with a top pairing defenseman added.

Murat Ates [of The Athletic] stated that the Red Wings said Filip Hronek is completely off the table, but Winnipeg has inquired about some draft picks. The Red Wings have three 2nd round picks this upcoming draft and would be willing to part ways with one or two of them to acquire Trouba.
6OA is too rich and the seconds aren’t enough value nor do they help Winnipeg next season. Makes a bit more sense to just use him as a rental for that return.

Tend to agree. Minimum return for renting a player like Trouba at the trade deadline is a 1st and a bona fide prospect. Can't see the Jets trading him for less in the off-season.
