It's hard to summon up justification of why he shouldn't be able to net a deal comparable to Aaron Ekblad. It's not like this should come as a surprise to anyone though. It was immediately apparently on settling @$2.8M that Trouba would either command a massive deal next time around to make up for the slight savings, or that he'd end up traded somewhere else.

It's kinda stupid on Chevy's part. He got the "bargain years" of Trouba in the seasons the Jets aren't likely to win much of anything. He probably would've had the opportunity to shave at least a million off the caphit if he'd just extended Trouba longterm at bigtime money in the first place. :dunno:

The difference between the two isn't RNH and Puljujarvi but Klefbom is absolutely not a better player than Trouba.

Spoken like someone that didn't watch much Klefbom last season.

He's an emerging stud #1 defenceman and you won't find many Oiler fans that would move him 1 for 1 for Trouba.

Of course there are other factors at work - Klefbom is signed long term at a sweetheart cap hit, he isn't represented by the biggest asshat agent in sports, and with Larsson as a rock solid #2 and Matt Benning emerging as a legitimate top four option 'outta nowhere' on the right side, we need Klefbom more than we need Trouba - but their 'in a vacuum' value is a heck of a lot closer than you seem to be prepared to deal with.

Long story short, factor everything in and I'd value Klefbom as worth more to Edmonton than Trouba would be right now.

If trouba still hates the peg then you probably won't get much for him if he wants to leave. And if he wants to re sign you will probably do that anyways

Man, I nailed I think with my offer of Nuge and puljujarvi.
The caps back and forth would be decent too.
Draisaitl is a no go. Only a few d man would fetch him with a list of
Parayko, Karlson with his current contract(even though its a gamble for the oilers)
Alex petriangelo and victor hedman.

Not saying draisaitl could fetch the name she above without add though.

Habs made the same mistake with Subban and paid dearly for it.
Riellys 6 year/30 mil deal would have been perfect for both player and organization.

Im guessing he comes in close to big buff on a long term deal. 7-7.5 mil + (if he isnt traded)

he wanted the moon last time too and got 2x3. he will get what he is worth. who cares what a player asks for the only thing that matters is what he is worth. he is more then welcome to file for arbitration.

oh sure. watch him get a 2 year deal then that leads him right into UFA. that should help his trade value a year later when the jets are eligible to deal him.

Trouba asked for an 8 year deal at 7 per, but was likely willing to take 6-6.5. you think the jets were wise to give him a bridge to a 3rd contract that could be 3x as much per year?

If they think he's a top defenseman, then you can't let him go. It's that simple.

well if its a choice between arbitration or the moon the jets will choose arbitration.

Trouba should get paid, he deserves it. Winnipeg has to overpay players to sign/stay there. It is what it is.

Wheeler, Buff, Scheif, Little, Perrault, and likely soon Little again might think otherwise.

Chevy miscalced on a couple like Pavelec, Stuart, and maybe Enstrom. But over the same period, show me a GM who hasn't got 3 or 4 he wished he could have do overs on....

If I recall correctly his agent refused to talk money at all and just demanded a trade.Where did you get your numbers From?

The rationale given for the trade request was not about money or contract though, it was about his role with the team.
