Let's get this started everyone!
Conference Finals. Baby Leafs vs. Baby Caps.
Leading Scorer Connor Carrick (thank you Winnik!) vs. his old team.

I know this is bare bones, but there was no thread so we should start talking about it :)

Can't wait for this to start!! Those 3 days seemed like forever!

I have a feeling Nylander is going to step up!! Let's hope this is his series to show what he can do. I'm not saying a Marner performance, but a real good showing.

Toronto Marlies have chance to impress wider audience

All eyes on Maple Leafs' farm team as their playoff march to be aired live on TSN.

The Marlies have been tough to find on television. Road games through the playoffs have been on Leafs-TV. Home games were broadcast on a small Rogers cable channel. The AHL has a streaming service as well.

Now the Marlies have a chance to grab the spotlight.

“It’s a recognition of the reputation these players have created,” said Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello. “These are stepping-stones. They are in the spotlight. Much is expected. And they have to be prepared for that.”

For Lamoriello, how well the Marlies do is at least an indication of how they are growing as players.

“The further you get, the tougher it is,” said Lamoriello. “You experience the highs and lows. How you overcome them, how you handle the recognition that you get, all of this is a growing process. It’s part of maturity. It’s part of experience. It’s another step.”

Before the Marlies left for Hershey, coach Sheldon Keefe said he could feel the team’s bandwagon getting bigger.

“The reaction we’ve had, with people filling the place for all of our playoff games, really shows people are following the team, paying attention, are into it,” said Keefe. “It’s a cool experience. Guys have put in a lot of work and feel good with what they’ve done. For people to take notice, it makes them feel good.”

5 things to watch in Marlies-Hershey series

TURNING THE CONNOR

Every team in the NHL’s Final Four has at least one traded player from Toronto, all with good reason to show the Maple Leafs their value.

The Marlies have defenceman Connor Carrick, who is already making the Washington Capitals a bit nervous with his strong showing as a Leaf and now a piece of the AHL playoff scoring lead with 14 points. What better chance to further his cause than against the Caps’ farm team in the Eastern Conference final?

Carrick has been a man on a mission for the Marlies and together with T.J. Brennan forms a strong power-0play point connection. The Marlies dropped their four-forwards alignment on one unit to accommodate Carrick’s strengths. He has a gift for getting pucks through traffic and the potent Marlies offence needs only one such opportunity near the net to cash in.

If the Albany series was any indication, the Bears are going to have to target Carrick to disrupt the Marlies at both ends of the ice.

BIBEAU VS. PETERS

Antoine Bibeau has yet to play a minute of net in the NHL, but he’ll be knocking at the door for a shot with the Leafs if he stays as the No. 1 and gets the Marlies to the Calder Cup final.

Where there have been letdowns by Marlies in the playoffs, it’s mostly been Bibeau’s mates to blame and coach Sheldon Keefe keeps calling his number after it seemed a rotation with Garret Sparks was the plan.

“He earned the net,” Keefe said. “Right to the final buzzer (against Albany) he’s in there battling, finding his way in traffic. I’m really proud of Antoine, how he’s handled himself in this playoff.”

Bibeau has made a few breakaway saves and has been needed early in games to cover for teammates’ gaffes. Surving Game 7 helps his confidence, but he’s been in pressure situations since getting to the Memorial Cup a few years ago. His only low ebb this season was when the Leafs called him up, didn’t use him and rust set in.

Opposing Bibeau in this series is Justin Peters, a former St. Michael’s College stopper and veteran of 80 NHL games amid a long career in the minors. Peters has made the most saves in the AHL playoffs and has a couple of shutouts, but holding off all four Marlies lines will be hard.

NEED TO KNOW BASIS

Because of a circus in Hershey next week, the top-seeded Marlies will open on the road Friday and Saturday and resume Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at Ricoh Coliseum. If a seventh game is required, it will be in Toronto.

“Both teams are very similar, a lot of skill, a lot of puck possession and high-paced games,” Brennan noted. “They have a lot of depth in their lineup and it’s something we’re prepared for. It’s not as much time to prepare as last round and they’re a different team than Albany, but we’re just trying to switch gears.”

The Bears have invested in youth as much as the Marlies. Half their roster is 21 or under. Much of the Marlies’ success depends on William Nylander as well, looking a bit disengaged at times under heavy checking from Albany. But he and linemates Kasperi Kapanen and Zach Hyman had a huge finish against the Devils. If Nylander gets room to juke and shoot, it won’t be a happy outcome for Hershey.

The clubs split the season’s series 1-1, but little of that matters in the heat of late May. Winner of this series plays the Western Conference champion, pitting the Ontario Reign (Los Angeles Kings) and Lake Erie Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets).

Unlike the Devs, the Bears are inconsistent.

Its like a Jekyll and Hyde regular season vs. the playoffs.
They score by committee, and the AHL leading scorer hasn't done much.
Their goaltending wasn't great season long, and now Justin Peters has stepped up to be better than Wedgewood has been.

The plus side, is like us, they play an up tempo offensive game, which also means breaks for us. Again Hershey is a very good home team.
Horrid PP, but better on the PK, than we are.

I don't know what to think, as again, we only played them 2x, and both resulted in blowout scores, for both teams.

So excited that they're getting TSN coverage, especially for an away game. It's been horrible trying to find coverage for the away games. I usually have to wait until the highlights are posted.

That's what I was thinking too, I think Nylander has been banged up and still fighting post-concussion symptoms and the others from the rough two series, against bigger hard hitting teams.

This is good, it will be two teams who rely heavily on their youth, with a fair number of vets leading the way.

In net Peters looks like he's killing it.

Good challenge, and like that both teams having prospects playing.

Depends on how you look at it.

Really TSN 1,3,4,5 are the same channel 95% of the time with only regional programming or tournaments making the programming different.

TSN2 isn't the same as the other 4 which is why programming ends up on there like these AHL games.

To use Sportsnet as a comparison...TSN1,3,4,5 are Sportsnet East, Ontario, West, Pacific...TSN2 is more like a Sportsnet1 or 360 used for overflow programming.
