Has Gio really fallen off to the point of him being acquired is widely mocked? Like that is a genuine question. I haven't watched him in Seattle but the reaction here makes it seems like he is trash.

He's useful but the area he's declined in are the areas they need most. He's losing battles and not able to clear the crease anymore. He's still effective enough at running a PP/ blue line but he's a bit of a defensive liability (still got a good poke check/ active stick though).

He's redundant to them.

I think Gio is still top 4. Hard to evaluate him on a tire fire like Seattle. He was still effective in a top 4 role his last year in Calgary.
He’s top 4 but I’d say he’s a second pairing dman now on a contender, who could run the second PP unit. He makes mistakes when he logs too many minutes, but if he’s put in a Duncan Keith situation where he’s not the main guy he should be fine.
