It is not really production that the Leafs needed so badly from Hyman, it was his grit and willingness to play a physical puck chasing game. Not many players on the Leafs are consistently willing to go to the dirty areas to retrieve the puck like Hyman did. hymans highs as a leaf was 21 goals and less than 50 pts so it’s not like those numbers are irreplaceable

Leafs fan love using pace when it comes to Matthews, so why not Hyman?
Hyman has been on pace for ~30g and 60p - but that doesn't fit your narrative eh? lol

I thought he started slow but got better as camp went on. He’s still got an NHL-level shot and vision on the power play, but his skating is a big issue.
Team’s looking for a power play specialist that can be sheltered at 5v5 could do worse for league min. but at this point I assume he would have got a contract if anyone was interested.

because Hyman isn't able to stay healthy over the course of any season for it to matter. People talk about pace for Matthews the last 2 seasons because he only missed like 2-3 games total. His GP was simply lower because the seasons were shortened.
People have been using pace for Matthews since his 2nd season. This is not a new thing, it’s just a new thing for pace not to matter to Leaf fans.

Yes...because last year it was Galchenyuk. If Gusev made the team and clicked with the group in the same way that Galchenyuk did, then he could get time at LW. There's nothing outrageous about being hopeful for a PTO. Again, why do you care so much?

Yeah I could've seen it. Then he sucked in camp and that idea went away. I could've seen Ho-Sang or Bunting too. The Leafs LW situation was wide open. I probably said something similar in the Bunting thread lol.
We literally had a LW waiver pickup who can't skate on our second line last year so I don't know why it was so out of the realm of possibility. You are reaching so hard here for a gotcha on fairly innocuous statements.
