Typical overpayment. At least 5K too much per year.

Kidding of course. Guy was a breath of fresh air this season keeping it simple and physical. Fantastic bottom pair guy that is able to eat more minutes if needed. Happy to have him locked up for a few years.

expensive #7 in the same way Reaves is an expensive #13.

Is this a Brad Treliving thing or something?

Fantastic signing he's a 5/6 that can play solid top 4 minutes if you need him to, doesn't really hurt the cap space either because if he falls off a cliff next season his salary can almost be entirely buried, in fact with the cap being 87 million next season it's possible they will be able to entirely bury it.

Flames fans warned us about Treliving but between this, the Bobby Mac signing, the drafting of Easton Cowan, and of course the extension to Matthews and Nylander I'm not seeing it.

So far So good from Treliving

He would be an expensive #7, if he were a #7.

But he's not a #7 he's proven he's at least a #5

This is the third contract with a 1.35 AAV that Treliving has signed a player to in Toronto. Oddly specific.

You have McCabe as the #3, a lot of that time he was paired with Benoit and that pair was effective.

That makes Benoit the #4.

That's a little higher than I I want him in the lineup but he's CLEARLY proven he's better than a #7.

Therefore not overpaid.

That's not how that works lol.

Orlov is not top 4 D quality because: Slavin, Pesce, Skjei, Burns...Right.

Benoit is a solid 5/6 who is growing. He's been stapled to McCabe on a shutdown pairing for over 50% of this season and looked excellent. Benoit and Liljegren are in similar positions where they've played up and down the lineup.

Outside of the top 3 on your list, the rest are interchangeable; the blueline is mostly quantity over quality. Giordano is also not even an everyday player lol not sure why you're listing him ahead.

Slavin, Pesce, Skjei, Burns are top 4 D pushing down a top 4 D

Lybushkin/Edmundson/Giordano are 6/7D pushing down another 6/7.

Skating in the top 4 when we have multiple injuries isn't earning a top 4 spot or performing like a top 4. Leafs have been bad this year with him in the top 4. Theres a reason why we aren't in the same tier as teams like Boston/Florida/Carolina/et al.

Yes there is, it's because Sammy had his head up his ass and couldn't make a save for the first 4 months of the season.

Nobody is claiming that Benoit is a #4. The poster you were replying to was pointing out your logic and following that logic would make him a #4.

He's a 5/6, and paid like a 5/6. He's also played fine when moved up in the lineup. Luckily he's not paid anywhere close to a #4 so we don't have to judge him on that.

I honestly think its hard to argue he's proven to be a 5/6 considering whenever we're healthy he's out of the lineup
