Fantasy rosters and however many NHL players you have do not play in important international tournaments, TEAMS do (you need quite a number of humble role players to succeed as a TEAM).

You do not win anything with 20 ovechkins or 20 nylanders...

Czechia

Maybe if our drafted first rounders could develop into good players we would be either 3 or 4 but they let us down.

Broberg, Lias Andersson, Björnfot and Söderström are the notable ones that should give up on their NHL career. Good job, you let us swedish hockey fans down.

Since 2017 draft to now we pretty much only have 2 star players in the NHL. Pettersson and Dahlin.
Yup, Czechia with AHLers is stronger than Sweden for sure))

And Anton Olsson, Aho, Wallinder, Grans, Albert Johansson, Norlinder, Lundqvist, Brännström, Gustav Lindström

Lots of d busts this last years
Gustav Lindstrom is such a bust, wow

Sweden is more balanced than Russia. Finland isn't.
Finland cant match Russia’s goaltending, defense and wingers.
Finland’s significant lack of defensive depth would be their undoing over the long-haul at highest levels.
Russia's "better" RHD depth chart is still basically Zub, Zaitsev, Lyubushkin, Miromanov.

well we are tired of having D prospects that wont be a top pair D or atleast top 4 D. Sooner or later NHL teams will stop pick swedish defencemen cus of previous drafts.

elite top pairing D-men doesnt grow on three but we havent had one since Dahlin. To be the best country in the world u need elite NHL players not drafted scam players..

20 Ovechkins or Nylanders would absolutely f-ing dominate, lol (ok you need d-men but you get the idea). NHL teams can't do that obviously because of simple numbers and salary cap.

Canada essentially does bring that type of all star team to major tournaments and wins them all the time

Still don't see how that puts Czechia ahead

12Nylander's maybe would dominate but 12 forwards identical as modern 38 years old Ovechkin's at iihf skodA they would propably lose to France and Poland and thats not exagerration they would be just awful one Ovechkin in NHL floating and letting others do dirty work and living on his shooting is one think but full team of slow old Ovechkin's playing no defense and having to play centre position..any World championship level team would annihilate them...

Well sure, old semi washed up Ovy is different but I think the point was more that you couldn't win with a team of superstars

From what I've seen (in other threads, etc.) most posters are taking this into consideration while constructing their fantasy rosters.
The importance of role players and 2-way play isn't overlooked, generally. Keep in mind many superstars have the ability to take on a checking role or whatever.

What about 1980 Olympics 'Miracle On Ice' then?
USA 20+3 non-NHL players - most of them probably less skilled than AHL-level players as we look at it today - but they won it AS A TEAM

And 2019 WHC was a similar case, so many top countries absolutely stacked with NHL players - but FIN won it with practically no help from NHL - AS A TEAM

And if you want another example: an absolutely stacked best-on-best swedish roster that was more than equivalent to 20 nylanders - lost and was eliminated vs 20 belarus no-namers in the QF of the 2002 Olympics...

A team of 20 prime Ovechkins would be unstoppable lmfao

In no particular order,
Canada
Russia
Sweden
Finland

US would be in the top four if they ever played to their potential. No one else has a very compelling argument.

What happened in all the games between those few examples

Nobody is denying upsets happen especially in short tournaments

Those are still outlier occurrences. Miracle happened 44 years ago. Belarus/Sweden 22 years ago.
That you need to go that far back just to find a handful of examples proves just how rare these occurrences are.
