Now this is good news. Glad to see it get done and out of the way,

This sends a bit of a message that the kids want to be part of the solution, and that not everyone just wants out.

Props to Dorion and the contract guy (McTavitsh) for getting this done.

Feels good.

Great day in Sens Land.

I am happy to see Chabot signed for many years. Great signing and at $8M for 8 years. After signing White we now have 2 very good players on board. My pessimistic outlook for this team has improved significantly. Hopefully the team will continue to sign its best young prospects to good value contracts.

Just pumping us up so there’s room to fall when the rest are traded away. At least we have chabot.

Best Sens news in...2 years? What an enjoyable last 2 days in Sens land. The demise of Eugene's wallet was greatly exaggerated! (well, remains to be seen on that point)

I'm a poor student that has all evening classes but I think I gotta hand it to them for this one and buy some tickets. I've been in the "show me you're committed to icing a good team and I'll support" camp. Long term extensions for white and Chabot prove to me that they are going to try. Lots of respect earned back here.

That's also a great deal for us. Chabot will be an 8 million dollar defenseman this season. Who knows how good he'll be mid way through that deal?

UNCONFIRMED: Contract based on initial report. Once the details have been confirmed the contract will be updated

No reported signing bonuses or trade protection yet. I would guess that's the actual contract because they have specific numbers. The 4M year is the prospective lockout year.

This is an amazing contract. It shows that the young core have bought in. Cap hit percentage wise, it's lower than comparable top pairing D coming off of their ELC. I'm skeptical about no bonuses or trade protection, because that's just ridiculousness.

Something tells me Chabot wanted to be here, because that's what this contract looks like. Still, this is Dorion's best move as GM. He's set this team up with a franchise defender at what will be an amazing cap hit for almost the entirety of the next decade.

If the above contract structure is accurate, it also sets a precedent internally. If our best player isn't getting signing bonuses, it then becomes difficult for other players to justify that position. It doesn't mean Tkachuk won't go hard next year trying to get every dollar he can get, but it certainly will be easier to sign Tkachuk to an 8x8 type deal when there's a culture internally of the young core buying in.

what a f***ing amazing contract. after what provorov got I thought chabot would come at $8x6 not $8x8. he will be worth much more than that during the term of this contract. this also takes him to 31 which is basically his whole prime.

I don't think you understand how bad we needed one good move.

If you're coming in with negative, get bent. We've been through enough.
I’m a panthers fan I understand the pain man. Like I said if he was going to make ONE good move this was the best one. Chabot is a superstar. Not being negative at all, Melnyk is just a bum and you guys deserve better.

Im just saying that you can't force players to sign an extension. White and Chabot want to be here. they want to be part of the solution. they know that this team will be a contender in the not so distant future. I still wish we had a different owner then Melnyk. but to put all the blame solely on his shoulder is not fair. it takes two to tango.

I mean the ultimate hope would be by the time the backload of Chabot's contract kicks in is that Melnyk is gone.

Great deal - It feels like the type of contract that EM could payout ... which makes me think him selling the team isn't a guarantee.
