What I’m saying is that this isn’t just him not skating, it feels like the staff has lost the room a bit.
Agreed.

This team got lucky with a fair number of wins when they were outplayed/outshot and now when that horseshoe dropped outta their asses there's no lucky breaks/bounces and we're seeing the losses mounting.

I'm not getting what kind of "young core" people here are the talking about. We have Seider, Raymond, Larkin in his prime, Walman and then a lot of "what ifs" in grand rapids. Few good D and goalie prospects but nothing spectacular and a giant black hole at the offense.

Mazur, Danielsson or Kasper could become players similar to Filppula if things will go extremely well. And we need Zetterbergs to be relevant.

Classic case of overvaluing prospects by the fanbase.
This right here.

We need more than what we currently have on the roster and in our system...We're likely set for 'Minnesota Mediocrity' where we might be good enough to make the playoffs a few years here and then miss the playoffs a few years there...Never good enough to be a legit contender.

It's almost like it takes longer than 5 years to rebuild from being one of the worst teams in NHL history.

We are actually right around where they should be, maybe even further along honestly.

My God, knock it off with this loser talk. Yzerman wasn’t hired to take over five years to make this a playoff team again; Detroit could have hired anyone else and they’d have the same results. It was never supposed to take this long.

Yzerman was brought back to be special, and so far, he hasn’t been. At some point, there needs to be serious pressure on him, because none of us would get over 5 years to not make any significant progress at our jobs.

There are people all over social media bleating that “you’re not a real fan if you criticize THE CAPTAIN” as if he were the second coming. Same people who would still be saying “Trust the Yzerplan” if they were still not in the playoffs by 2026.

Five years into a rebuild and not be in the playoffs is unacceptable for the Detroit Red Wings. This isn’t Buffalo or Columbus where a single playoff appearance per decade is the standard.

It's not about plot armor. Shortcuts to the playoffs produce the same outcome as the get in and anything can happen circle jerk that we moved away from with holland. 5 years is a fraction of time when your team is one of the worst rosters that has ever been assembled in NHL history. Yzerman is still working out the core which is shaping up pretty nicely.

You can't just will yourself into the playoffs, and shortcuts cost resources. The long game is the one that creates perpetual playoff appearances and we are not there yet.

Maybe we can fire Yzerman and hire Cleary to bring back some of those good ol streak at all cost days of getting in and then being DESTROYED in the first round.
