It's time to get the NFL Draft talk really going. Personally I hope a corner we rate as worthy of selecting in the first round is there for the taking. I like Kevin Johnson a lot and think he has a very low chance of busting. I'm torn on Marcus Peters, I think he's the best corner in the draft but he's such a gamble. And I'd hate to see us pass on him (if he's available) just to see him become an All-Pro for Baltimore or New England.

At OLB I'm really not sure who would be there. I'm not a Harold fan, but if Ray or Gregory drops I'd be down with drafting them. After the first round I'd like Kikaha or Orchard.

The most interesting thing about the list above is the number of 1st/2nd round Wide Receivers there are. I'd love to see the reaction around town if we end up with Devante Parker or Breshard Perriman. They might be seen as a luxury but if they're available they're probably the best player on the board and could make our offense insanely tough to stop.

I think you've got to go corner, even if there's some risk involved. End of the day, it's a passing league. You need guys who can cover, and I think it helps in terms of opening up creative blitz options.

So we might be looking at an AB holdout here. Can't say that I'm surprised, and he definitely deserves it. I wonder how much he'll want though.

I really like Johnson a lot.

I'm worried that Gregory is another Josh Gordon. I don't trust him.

Gregory is most definitely a risk. Talent-wise he's a top 5 pick. If he falls to us, especially because he's a position of need for us; I just feel that we'd need to take him. Ultimately whoever drafts him needs to have a strong locker room and has to keep an eye on him. It's tough to say since we need a corner also, but if I'm making the decision I'd take Gregory. However if the corner we want is available, I'd definitely understand why we'd choose him over Gregory.

The Steelers don't discuss new contracts until you're in your final year (barring Qb's apparently). AB was second in receiving in 2013 and then first in receiving in 2014. It isn't a stretch by any means to expect him to be top 3 this year at least. I'd imagine he wants more than Wallace and starts from there.

I think if they wait until he's in his last year he won't be playing for the Steelers. You can't blame him for wanting to get paid more, but it will be interesting to see how they approach this. He's so important to this team and he knows it. I believe he has 3 years left on his current deal, right? He gets paid well already so to threaten to sit out with 3 years left seems pretty selfish to me. I don't think he gets extended until after this season at the earliest. He deserves a raise, but he knows how the Steelers operate. This could get bad.

I agree that this is especially tricky. I think an attempt should be made to get a new deal done before he posts another impressive season and basically maxes his value. Currently AB is looking at anywhere from 11m per year at a minimum raise. If he posts another great season then that likely increases to the higher 12's. I think a good comparison contract will be what DT gets.

DT is a good comparison, but I think AB will get a little more. He's a better receiver IMO. I'm thinking that Brown wants top 3 WR money. That might be 12, not really sure how much WRs make on a year-year basis.

I'm looking from the outside in and I don't really know much about the NFL. But would it be fair to say that this is tough off season for the Steelers?

The AB news certainly isn't good, it's too early to tell what will happen with that. The retirements are addition by subtraction, IMO. Lebeau leaving is significant, but change isn't a bad thing. The Bell news was ****, but we knew he was gonna miss some time. DeAngelo Williams could be a good replacement until Bell comes back. We locked down Ben which I'm happy about. We might have a tough season this year adjusting to all of the changes and because of our schedule, but I'm looking forward to the future of this team. Depends what happens at the draft before I declare it a good or bad off season though. The Browns had a bad off season.

2nd NFL Board Mock Draft results:
1.22 Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
2.56 D'Joun Smith, CB, FAU
3.87 Lorenzo Mauldin, OLB, Louisville

Kyle Emanuel was my ace in the hole sleeper pick, but with Mauldin still on the board I couldn't pull the trigger.

i can't see them drafting CB in the first two rounds, but you never know.

I highly doubt it, but given what was on the board that's what I went with. My draft list was entirely defense, and the next OLB on my board wound up being Mauldin, so I got both guys I wanted in the 2nd.

Yinz know I love my project corners, but we can only go for one if we have someone who can start as a rookie, which Kevin Johnson should be able to.

I'm a big time Johnson fan. If he was their pick at #22 then I would be happy. Even though Peters has character concerns if the Steelers take him then I would be just as happy. If they bypass on Peters and the do decide to take a CB then I want Johnson.

Johnson has one of the highest total of passes broken up of any CB in the draft. He's active in run support as well. I'm not big on combine numbers but he, along with Byron Jones, was the only CB who finished in the top five in shuttle, 3-cone, broad, and vertical.

Gregory's stock is falling

Along with the off the field stuff he's been reporting for visits weighing less than 230 pounds. There are questions whether he can maintain weight during the season.

Awesome news, glad he came around. I think he realized the mistake that he was making. The Steelers have moved on from plenty of talented WRs before him.
