Montoya plays tonight & the Oilers still have 2 more back to backs after tonight, so it looks good that we'll get their 4th.

Assuming we make no more trades (lol) and the conditions of the picks are satisfied and we end up with two 4ths:

1st round pick (top-10)
2nd round pick (32-40)
2nd round pick (37-45)
2nd round pick (50-62)
2nd round pick (50-62)
3rd round pick (63-71)
4th round pick (93-101)
4th round pick (110-124)
5th round pick (125-133)

not bad. There's no excuses at this year's draft, even if we don't make anymore trades, and I'd guess we still end up adding at least another 2nd or 3rd, and if we move Patches, a 1st in there.

Even as a draft junky, four 2nds in one draft is too much.. I'd like to see us try to trade up into the 1st or move one for a 2nd next year at the draft floor.

Whether the 30-minute condition is real or not, Montoya has played 30 minutes tonight.

Here is the screenshot I took:

So he's either at 6 games played if the 30-minute condition isn't true. Or he's 100% surely at 5 games played now if the 30-minute condition is true.

Looking good, looking good. 2nds have a pretty good chance of getting talent. Wasn’t P.K. a 2nd?

If you had looked at our history at trading the seconds away and not having one to make a selection at the draft, it would be more telling. And when we did have picks like in 2012 and 2013, there were pretty brutal crops in the second round.

Edmonton's 4th rounder will be high too so it'll be pretty close to a late 3rd rounder. 7 picks in the top 100 would be nice considering we only had 6 total from the 2014, 2015 and 2016 drafts.

So how many more games does Monty have to play? 2?

It depends if the 30-minute condition is true. If it is, Montoya needs 2 more games at 30+ minutes.

If it isn't true, then he just needs to play 1 more game, even if he comes in relief with less than 30 minutes to play.

The good thing is that Edmonton have 3 more back-to-backs left in the season. And there is also the chance Talbot gets lit up early in a game and Montoya comes in relief with enough time left for him to hit the 30-minute mark.

The reason I'm personally confused about the 30-minute condition is that it was tweeted out by someone the day of or the day after the trade. But when you look at CapFriendly, the site that has every condition of a trade marked down, they don't mention 30-minutes, they just say regular season games.

And so, looking at his stats on NHL.com, he's played 6 regular season games with Edmonton. He played less than 30 in one (vs. BUF on Jan. 23rd), but it still counts as a game played.

But again, I don't know if the 30-minute condition is legit or not.

I could be wrong, but I believe the 30 minute thing only applies if he comes off the bench. IE if he were to replace a pulled/injured Talbot and end up playing over 30 minutes that would count as a start. But otherwise, a start is a start.

We're getting the 4th.

That's a good point. It could be starts AND 30-minute of play if he doesn't start. Which means a 4-minute start IS a game too.
