I know what recency bias is. Matthews may be a good regular season player but has done nothing when it matters most, consistently every year.

Tkachuk produces similar numbers and has way more tools. Matthews is selfish and one dimensional. He’s obviously a top 10 forward in the league and possibly the best pure goal scorer but Tkachuk does everything and performs when it matters most. I’m taking Tkachuk over Matthews. He also took a team friendly to win because he obviously cares more about success than profit which is important.

Matthews is a proven loser.

2 seasons, no need to exaggerate
Also he is 5th on the list above players that had better season last year, so pretty good no?

He did not, 1.38 vs 1.45 PPG
.ppg is the key for you?

Matthews Hart season

73GP, 60g, 46A, 106pts

Pastrnaks runner up season

82gp, 61G, 52A, 113pts

Pace arguments are fun too.

Pasta played more games, had more goals, more assists and more points. That is a straight up sweep.

To be fair, Pasta was 40pts behind the scoring leader last year.....Matthews was not in 2021-22.

Na it's irrational. Hard to take you seriously about ek and likewise for him with Crosby because of it.

Na. It's you.

I see alot of people post here and rip on star players. It's almost always the same situation, typically ego driven to try and sounds 'different' or 'smart' when the end result usually just ends up hurting one's credibility.
Alright, since you think so, it must be right, right? Right.

No. People can value things differently and have different opinions. That’s a thing. And no, your opinion is not worth more than anyone else’s.

There you go, keyboard warrior. Have a great day!

Hughes is 9 and Thompson isn't even on the list? I don't think any person in 12-15 belongs on the list either.

but it's actually not, he won the Hart and Lindsay while missing games. It's really only in threads like this that people act like it's a big deal
Well it's too bad Pastrnak was going against a 64 goal and 153 point season so he couldn't win those awards with an even better statline than Matthews.

yes, too bad Pasta has never been the best in the league for a year like Matthews was and hence, has never had as good a season as Matthews hart year

McDavid won the Lindsay and finished 5th for the Hart that season. Unlike recent years, no consensus at all there about the best player.
So since we have agreed that competition for the awards varies, I think we're done here.

It's a pretty big leap to go from "The Hockey News underrates Russians constantly" to "Durr, Canadian Media". And a leap that takes us pretty off topic in general, don't you think?

That isn't the leap at all.

The Canadian hockey media has a decades-long well-established pattern of nativism and anti-Russian bias. Don Cherry is not some new thing. He was/is wildly popular in Canada and it's not some leap in logic to say he was a nativist.

Cherry is an undeniable one of a many examples.
