GDT: The Boys are back & the Flyers are in town!

Does McDavid match Gretzky's Oilers record of 17 points through 6 games?

Yes, I am a Flyers fan first.

Yes I am making the Oilers game day thread because of my prior streak.

Yes I heart you all on here.

I'm gonna lose my Flyers fan card for this, so I hope y'all enjoy

I like our chances. Even if the top six slumps, the third line will get it done

If Ellis doesn't play, Flyers are f***ed. Can't have Justin Braun or Sanheim and Ristolainen going up against McDavid and expect to win lol.
This is funny but also disappointing.

I'm getting a bit sick of facing teams missing key people

Such as (but not only)
Vegas: stone, pacioretty
Calgary: Coleman
Vancouver: Boeser

Between that and beating Anaheim and Arizona, I'm itching for the team to get a real test. A good team at full power

Well, even if Ellis is in, our 2C and 3RW are out lol.

Oilers have not caught the injury bug yet which has led to their strong start. Tons of teams have been missing key players.

Hopefully Ellis plays and he and Provy can go up against McDavid, that would be fun to watch lol.

To be fair were missing our #1 Goalie which isn't insignificant

A team like Vancouver sans Boeser or Calgary sans Coleman is still a very similar team to good strength. Those two are great players, but those teams aren't necessarily built around those guys (Calgary especially. Boeser is more important). So those were good games to get our game going and work on the systems and details Tippett wants to see. Especially with a bunch of new guys on the team I think playing some slightly depleted teams is a good way to start the season and get up and running systems-wise as well as gaining confidence.

I will say that Risto has big games against us for some reason.

Technically we are missing a top pairing defenseman (Klefbom), our starting goalie (Smith) and a potential top 6 forward (Holloway). ;)

Also missing a empty net specialist in Archibald.

This wait between games is like another offseason.

So much has happened since they last played... Chicago mess has gotten even messier (on and off the ice)... Leafs suck even harder... Montreal continues to suck epically hard... Flames somehow are winning games (illusion of a good team that will vanish like a wavy oasis in the desert... can't wait until Oilers kick their ass again but that's not until the 27th of Dec when they play again).

Buffalo (team I pegged as #32 is somehow good). Avs (team I pegged as #1 is somehow bad.)

Shit is strange but of course it's early and some ships will right themselves while others will sink (for Wright).

Anyway... the Flyers have been decent and this should be a good test for the Oilers.

Something to note... the Oilers have literally not faced a team outside their own conference in over a YEAR (yes I know last year was screwy... but still those were all technically divisional games).

Last time they played an actual team outside their own division/conference was March 7th 2020 vs Columbus which the Oilers won 4-1.

Oilers roster then compared to now... Oilers only have 5 forwards and 2 dmen currently on their roster that played that game vs the Blue Jackets... massive, massive turnover since then.

Koskinen stood on his head that game and saved 45 of 46 shots for the win.

Hoping for a repeat of that 4-1 game (hopefully with a few less shots against this time around.)
