It was The Maureen Murphy Show on her home ice of Matthews Arena. Final Score: Northeastern 3 - Boston U 0. SOGs were 37-14 in favor of the winners.
Shout-outs to the two backup goaltenders who played very confidently & skillfully in this Consolation Round game: BU senior Nicole McGuigan, who was appearing in her first career game; and NU junior Gwyneth Philips, who earns the W for the Huskies' victory in a full-game replacement of #1 NU goaltender Aerin Frankel.
End of one period, Harvard 1 - BC 0. Eagles lead in SOGs 17-14, while the Crimson have the edge in Faceoff Wins (12-10) & Blocked Shots (7-2). Harvard will have 1:02 of a carryover penalty kill starting the 2nd.
End of 2 periods @ Matthews, Harvard 2 - BC 2. The Eagles began to play better offensively after Maddie's second goal, but Harvard had their chances as well. Both goaltenders (senior Becky Dutton for Harvard, senior & team co-captain Abigail Levy for BC) have played strong with good positioning & reactions. Oughta be a fun finish.
Harvard retakes the lead three minutes into the 3rd period, courtesy of a first career goal by first-year defender Mia Biotti. 3-2 lead for the Crimson.
Della Rovere strips the puck from a BC player in the Eagles' end & scores her second goal to give Harvard a 4-3 lead. About 9 minutes now left in regulation.
Harvard takes a D-zone penalty with just over 10 seconds left in regulation. Abigail Levy is pulled for an extra attacker, so the Eagles will skate 6-on-4 in the closing seconds.
Huge scrum in the corner of the Harvard end, and time expires. Final Score = Harvard 5- Boston College 4. The 2022 Women's Beanpot Champions are the Harvard Crimson. And I am plum worn out.
ETA: Harvard outshot BC 55-30, and yet the Eagles kept coming back. An amazing game played by both sides.
