Small aging centers with bad contracts?

Tyler Johnson is a declining asset with significant money owed.

Columbus can do MUCH better than that for Sevard.

It wouldn't be a 1 for 1. Most likely Johnson + 1st for Savard type deal. Columbus gets value for Savard with the 1st and get a C they can use for a few seasons until they find or develop one or two. The free agent class of C isn't very good outside of RNH who might not even hit the market. For Tampa they were most likely going to offer Seattle a 1st to pick Johnson so nothing really changes there in regards to dumping Johnson they just get to rent Savard for another run.
