I don't venture over to the main board often, but hoo boy at some of the Hall takes. It is insane to me that any fan of a contending team wouldn't want him as a rental for any price he realistically gets.
They just say that because they so many people on hf treat real life hockey like NHL20. Play GM mode acquire all the top picks. Smart GMs want to win, plain and simple. Unless its a situation the pick has a good chance to be top 4pick, or the prospect is ready to make an immediate impact, GMs generally dont have an attachment like fans do. For example Byram for the Avs, the fans refuse to part with him even tho based on his skating a weak draft and regression this season chances are he has 2 more years of JR, than a year in the NHL maybe more. He's not like Quinn or Rasmus who both made the jump to the NHL the first year after being drafted. So chances are he ends up as a top 4 who really isn't elite in any facet of the game at an NHL level. With the young D the Avs have in the NHL and further ahead in the system like Timmins, Byram shouldn't be untouchable if he can fetch you a player like Hall who help the team win now opposed to a guy who really( if ever) won't be an impact till he's 22-23 years old. Hell sakic might not even be the GM in 4 years. Same with Benning in regards to Demko. With Marky clearly better now and Mikey dominating in his rookie season moving Demko + for Hall helps the team now while allowing Benning to reap the benefits now. I will be shocked if the return isn't a 1st and a A prospect or a lesser picks plus a blue-chip prospect or young NHL ready player dealt from said teams position of strength. Avs loaded at D, won't miss BB, Nucks have 3 potential high-end starters, yotes have the least desirable since Rannta only has a year left and they dont really have that A++ prospect or a wealth of high-end prospects. Not saying Nucks are players here just pointing out a package of Demko roster player and a 2nd is possibly better than what the yotes can do. Also the fact it's happening so fast and the fact Shero is no dummy must mean his price is somewhat getting met. Maybe 2 or 3 teams competing driving up the price?

"...to add to a young core featuring Hischier, Hughes, Bratt, Boqvist, Smith, Blackwood, and the player they draft top-5(?) in June."

Nice to see that fact (Bratt being a core player) being reinforced by others aside from HFBoards. :thumbu:

If he goes to Arizona, I'll be rooting for them to knock Colorado out of the playoffs.

Oh hell yeah....

The Yotes would become my de facto 2nd team.

King's Ransom?

Does he know something we don't?

Oh god...PLEASE...PLEAAASE....DO NOT HAVE HALL GO TO LOU AND THE ISLES!! :thumbd::thumbd::thumbd::thumbd:

Any other team on that list aside from them.

I don't care if he goes there. I don't see them signing him to a huge deal anyway so he'd essentially be a rental for them but I'm not sure they'd offer up enough anyway.

Does anyone remember a time when a player was held out for multiple games because of an impending trade and then that player was inserted back into the lineup due to trades breaking down?

Florida makes a lot of sense. They lost out on panarin so they are looking for star talent.

Florida would be great, cause their GM is terrible. I'm not going to fantasize about potential returns but am rooting for one GM to get desperate and outbid everyone else with a core piece. Also rooting for an unprotected first from a team that might collapse.

That's why I was kind of hoping Montreal would get in the mix, Bergevin definitely has insanity potential on any trade.

I edited it. I forgot to check if auto-correct made changes without me noticing.

That's....not what I meant.

I mean I have difficulty reading walls of text that aren't separated by Paragraphs and spacing.

Sorry, man. :dunno:

Can you just give me the gist of what you were saying in regards to Hall? :)

I dunno, but the Gomez/Tverdovsky scratch the night of the '03 trade deadline was wild ****

that deal was supposed to be for Teemu Selanne, correct?

Yeah allegedly they were both in a Selanne trade but it got nixed cause he had a no-trade and didn't want to come here. I guess they both got scratched cause they weren't supposed to play anyway and the speculation was wild there was a deal that hadn't yet been announced somehow in the pre-Twitter instanews age, especially since it was the only time Gomez was scratched all year.

To be fair, most of this big name rental acquisitions rarely result in the receiving team winning a cup. It’s mostly fool’s gold. Though I doubt that’s the reason those posters are balking.
