Slumps happen, whatever. They're still #1 in the league.

I'm more concerned about Ovechkin playing with a ***** attitude.

I thought it was a pretty decent effort? Obviously not thrilled with the result but they looked engaged most of the night.

Yeah, one of their better games since the break.

Still too much dumb in their game, and shooting/puck luck is off.

Not sure what I thought about the lines. 1st line looked promising at times. Others were mostly meh.

Top-6 possession 5-on-5 looks good. Carlson & Alzner with the possession performance of the season, haha.

It's a sad day when people are trying to find the positives in a 16 shot effort. This is heading toward a major collapse and not because of bad luck. It's been offensive ineptitude, and I really don't see Trotz capable of correcting it.

I thought the top 6 looked good. Ovechkin's game in particular looked dangerous. Missed the net a bunch but he'll have to work through that. If he keeps playing like he did tonight he'll start scoring in bunches.

Did not like Shattenkirk's penalties at all but the rest of his game was good. I'd give Schmidt a game over Orpik soon and I'd make an honest assessment of who's better as the 6D, but given Orpik's salary and prior statements by the staff there's no way this is going to happen.

we were a good team (not juggernaut) with lots of luck in January, now we are a good team with no luck. this slump is a reality check for the team and fans. we aren't juggernaut, but aren't bad team either. with little bit luck we can be dominant though, some players can go on god mode. we have talent for that, but it can be other way, some of our talented players can be overrated as they are aging, or not ready or haven't reached out next level and etc. i guess, we wait and see

our schedule down the stretch is brutal, there is a high possibility we will play Pits on the first round - might be a good thing

**** possession numbers

Corsi doesn't mean ****

It's about this team being dominant 5v5 like they have been all season (haven't lately) and being the. Eye team on special team (also, haven't been lately).

This team is falling apart- and same **** since the break last year. Other teams are starting to find the right type of chemistry -while caps are managed to be best team in October - December.

I still think Caps have most talented roster overall. We'll see if they actually play to their potential in a month. If so, could be awesome. If not, we'll see another self destruction before our eyes

I mean... I was pretty pissed after the Sharks game but they honestly didn't look bad tonight. Just took stupid penalties.

I'm gradually getting on board the gloom and doom train. Nothing is working right at the moment (besides brief periods of past dominance), just don't see us pulling together any time soon.

Predict a loss tomorrow in ANA (back to back games against a physical, rested playoff bound team), and a very tough game against the Wild back home. Either we run and gun with them, or end up suffering a grinding loss (Wild can play either way). We could easily be looking at a five game losing streak, then have to face NSH after Min. Meanwhile the Pens are dominating on their Canada road trip, and CBJ, even though they lost tonight, continue to play well of late.

On the bright side we do have a pair of games coming up against the Coyotes, and one against the Avs! :)

Rest of our schedule is brutal though, playing either playoff bound teams or teams fighting for a PO spot.

Shattenkirk with a nice slap pass again, but this assist was quickly forgotten with his 3 stupid penaltys.

There is one or two minute that changed everything (when Nicky and Vrana both hit the post)

At least we will play Cbus in the first round, this team is also sliding down like Caps.
And then we will lose again to PIT in the second round.
Bet on it

30 games ago the team was listless and sleepwalking to a good record anyway. Then they seemed to find themselves and ripped the league to shreds. Trotz had trotted out something new and the oppo didn't know how th deal with it. Confidence set in and off they went.

The league made them take a break for a week which has caused bad enough results around the league that Bettman is ready to pull the plug on it. At the same time teams have seen the new Caps stuff and are starting to game plan it.

Most teams have a bump in the road. So far Shattenkirk doesn't spell ALL IN. His results are mixed as with last night. Who knows what is up with Ov.

Lets face it, the only thing we haven't seen before with this team is them winning the Cup. Its been almost 20 years since the one time in the finals. So, nothing that they do right now will make the playoffs any easier to watch and really nothing that they don't do know will tell me they cant succeed.

Here's hoping Holtby sharpens up for the next three games and they can win 2.

Won't get down on this team yet because you can see the difference between this year and last year in how they are playing.

I'm as doom and gloom as anyone when it comes to the Capitals but this wasn't the game to get upset about.

Only saw the first, but they were pretty clearly the more dangerous team in that period. They could/should have had 3 or 4 goals. Pucks that were going in a month ago are jumping over sticks or hitting the pipe now.

Carlson and Alzner continue to cause me to have heartburn. They are terrible.

Yeah - this should happen but it won't. The Shatty-Orpik pairing is not working. They're late to pucks, unable to maneuver effectively, and continually getting hemmed in. The best they can muster frequently is feeble chips out of the zone that allow the opposition to reload. Shatty looks good as a PP specialist, but not much else so far

But Carlzner looking pretty ineffective as well. This team needs to generate offense from back to front and only Nisky Orly do that consistently

Many people along with Blues fans have been saying this for awhile.
Very good puck mover and PP QB but the rest of his game is pretty medicore and he can go thru long stretchs where hes absolutely terrible in his own end. Whatever team pays him all that money with long term is most likely going to greatly regret it.

I don't think the Caps have been executing with the same efficiency or playing the same style. Other than the obvious trapping opponents it seems to me the Caps are mostly beating themselves by failing to play the rush/weave/spacing style even when it's there. They seem content to skate to certain spots and chip/chase much like the Trotz hockey we'd seen for most of his time in DC.

So it's back to coin-flip hockey, I guess.

But one thing I wonder, based on a comment you made recently, is if their call-up and cap situation has them playing conservatively. Maybe they're trying to do what they can to grab some points without going all out because they're up against a roster issue and can't afford to get anyone hurt.

If that's the case then I'd expect to see them ramp it up (switch-flippy) the last week of the season but we might be in for more of this garbage until then.

People who wanted Mike Green to stay apparently got their wish.

I'm glad to see this forum isn't a train wreck after last night's game. The usual suspects are grumbling of course, but I was expecting a full meltdown this morning.

I missed the 3rd, but I thought Ovie looked better than he has in several games. Still worried about his shot though.

How many shots they ended up with? 15 or 16?

Offense was fun while it lasted.
