Ben Barr was UMass's lead recruiter under Carvel. He should do well in Orono, especially with Maine's history of excellence. Glad to see Guite staying as associate head coach, too. Both great guys.

On Monday, when I posted, he was still on the team's website as "Associate Head Coach." That is no longer the case three days later.
that's because no decision's been made by Barr, yet.... it wasn't likely Guite would've been retained had he not been selected...

it's like any team website, you need personnel to update them...... in this case, Barr likely wouldn't be here had the timing been any different and Red had been extended

Northeastern University announced the promotion of men’s hockey coach Jim Madigan to athletic director to replace the departing Jeff Konya.

Associate head coach Jerry Keefe will be promoted to head coach.

Madigan served as coach for 10 years, returning to the Huskies bench in 2011 after playing for the team from 1981-85 and serving as an assistant coach from 1986-93.

He led the team to a record of 174-139-39 and finished his run with eight straight winning seasons. After the program had gone 30 years without winning the Beanpot, he led the Huskies to three straight championships from 2018-20. The Huskies also snapped a 28-year drought in the Hockey East tournament in 2016, then added another title in 2019. The 2016 squad snapped a 22-year drought from the NCAA tournament, with the program returning to the postseason in 2018 and 2019. ...

I haven't seen it mentioned here, so forgive me if this is a double post, but Paul Pearl and Boston University have parted ways. Pearl was rumored to be in the running for the open position at Northeastern, but he is reportedly now the head coach at Cushing Academy. No word on his replacement at BU.

WCHA MEN'S LEAGUE TO DISSOLVE EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2021

Men's League play ceases after 70 years of historic college hockey

Date: Friday, July 2, 2021
PDF Format

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – JULY 2, 2021 – Representatives of the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska Fairbanks recently voted to cease operations of the Men's League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association as a result of the departure of eight league members over the last two years. The vote to cease all men's league operations became effective July 1, 2021. ...

As a result of the decision, Alaska Fairbanks will compete as independent programs during the 2021-22 season. Alaska Anchorage will not compete next season as the university works to reinstate its men's ice hockey program after announcing in late 2020 that it was dropping the sport.

The dissolution decision comes following the departure of seven WCHA programs – Bemidji State University, Bowling Green State University, Ferris State University, Lake Superior State University, Michigan Technological University, Minnesota State University and Northern Michigan University – for the revived Central Collegiate Hockey Association next season. The University of Alabama in Huntsville was granted their request to depart the league earlier this summer.

The WCHA will continue to sponsor NCAA division 1 women's hockey.
