Sabres would likely be willing to move:

2024 1st (let's say 10OA)
one young roster player (Jokiharju, maybe Peterka)
a very good prospect (Isak Rosen, maybe Noah Ostlund).

This is a good package for a team accelerating a retool or rebuild.

They need a shirt-disturbing, wrecking-ball winger who can finish. Or a very good two-way center. Must have reasonable salary and term. Target may be a work-in-progress, but definitely not a retread or reclamation project.

What's fair trade value?

You can have any of vancouvers wingers for that. Silly package to give up for almost any winger but a select few.

10 oa + Peterka + ostlund is a ton of value.
Not looking for just any player. Looking for one of a select few. If one is available. They rarely are.

It is a ton of value, and the return should be commensurate.

Avs would do that for Casey Middlestadt I’m sure. He would most likely fit right in to Buffalos lineup and do well.

Casey might be worth one of those pieces. I want to hear what they can buy in combination.

Sounds like you need some Vatrano, but that package is way too much for what your asking for

Vatrano fits that perfectly, but by all reports the Ducks are not interested in moving him unless it is massive overpayment.

The highest I expect KA to aim is Nico Sturm...or any other 4C out there for under 2M per. Other than that a 4RW for cheaper than that. Sabres fans should get their pillows fluffed for the summer.

The kind of player that the OP is seeking can sometimes be pried loose, but usually when he's closer to free agency. You want all those traits in a single player plus years of service remaining before free agency. Quantity for quality, at that level and at that young age, rarely works because those players don't hit the market unless it's for another player in that tier and age bracket.

Would Buffalo give up an Alex Tuch right now? No. Even for a massive glut of good futures? Still no, and he only has two more years until unrestricted free agency (July 2026). Other teams feel the same way about their gems.

The package is too good and the ask is too high. Take any one of those really good futures pieces and aim for a player that is good and complementary but not a star in the making. Maybe make two or three such moves. Keep the first rounder and for God's sake use it on a forward.

Take out the 1st round pick and target Lawson Crouse. Peterka + Prospect + ??? For Crouse.

If Buffalo is trading a package the OP posted the player will need to be under 26-27.

So, quantity for quality?

That type of player is rare right now so unless it is Brady, that's a lot to give up.

Others who are older and a bit cheaper (not all the same value) could be Konecny or Rackell.

They could take another route and go hunting for a player like Keller and then just acquire bottom 6 guys who are annoying.

What kind of comment is this?

99% of trades could be considered quantity for quality if that package is the benchmark. There's a ton of value there.

10th overall
Peterka
Ostlund

is more than the vast majority of the league is willing to give up imo.

And therein lies the rub. The player worth this type of package simply isn't available or is worth more than this package. And the "reasonable" cost guys won't cost this much.
