I like some of the deals. I think the Toews deal is a tough one. Ebs is a great player an all but Toews is a franchise face. But i do understand the money aspect. Rest i like some solid deals had i thought i could land Stafford at that price may have made an offer

You're correct. The rule applies to re-signing your own UFAs to be, not new players signed as UFAs during the off-season.

TRADE RESTRICTIONS ON RE-SIGNED UFA'S

All pending Unrestricted Free Agents that agree to new contracts BEFORE
they reach free agent status cannot be traded until after the All-Star break
of the following season. If a trade of a player falling into that category does
occur before the All-Star break, the team trading the player must forfeit the

Sean already covered Tom's post, but to be sure, this statement is incorrect.

You can trade FA's signed during the open market without penalty. You cannot trade your own UFA's signed prior to the open market.
