Nope. (Toronto has Maple Leafs and Marlies.)

Thunder are for sale. Sounds like Anaheim might purchase them (and put their AHL team in Stockton) -- if they don't do San Diego or Long Beach.

The Ducks do not own an AHL franchise so buying an ECHL team would be meaningless right now, and Snoop Dogg was joking which is why he used the "sarcasm" emoticon.

Valley View Casino Center (San Diego) is no way able to house an AHL team. I have seen hockey games at the Cow Palace, Oracle(pre-renovations) and Nassau and Valley View is the worst and the ice was not regulation size.

They have completed a $2.5 million renovation that might have fixed a lot of the issues and possible the ice dimensions.

Ice surface is the same size as the old Boston Garden, 191' x 83'.

People keep saying this -- is there a real source for this? As far as I knew, it was the standard 200x85 for the whole time the IHL and WCHL/ECHL Gulls played there.

It's in some Boston Bruins book I own (would take forever to figure out which one). The Bruins used the San Diego Gulls as their minor league affiliate for couple seasons in the early 70s because of that. I guess it could have been made 200x85 after that.

There was no standard nhl ice size back in the old days when the gardens was built. It is why you hear so many old time hockey players talking about home ice advantage really mattering back in the day. Teams basically built arenas to best suit the team. One thing that made the gardens so intimidating to play in was the way the stands were built around the arena, they say it was like the fans were right over top of you.

That may be true of the Gardens, but it doesn't mean anything about the ice size of the SDSA in the 90s or currently, is my point.

Both mention the ice dimensions

Talks of renovations

I think if they renovated to NHL size there might be mention of it, but I could be wrong

Wikipedia is not a reliable source.
And again, the WHA days were 1974-77.
I have a question into the VVCC about it, I'll let y'all know what they tell me.

I was pretty sure this got settled in another thread awhile back. I seem to remember that the ice in SD had been changed to regulation.

Mighty Ducks to buy Norfolk Admirals

http://wavy.com/2015/01/07/norfolk-admirals-expected-to-be-sold-2/

10 On Your Side sources confirm that the move is inevitable as part of a new AHL Western Division that is expected to be created by five NHL teams. The Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, L.A. Kings, San Jose Sharks and Anaheim all have AHL affiliates on the east coast and moving those affiliates to the west would save time and money when players are sent up and down from the major league level to Triple-A.

Admirals’ owner Ken Young said Wednesday the team has not been sold but acknowledges that his options may be limited.

“There have been serious discussions regarding west coast teams wanting to own their AHL franchises and being able to move them closer to their parent cities,” he said. “This will be discussed at a league meeting in New York in the next three weeks.”

Sources tell WAVY-TV and FOX 43 Sports Director Bruce Rader the sale of the Admirals may not be finalized but it appears to be a “done deal.” The AHL franchise would be sold by Young to the Ducks, and this would be its last season in Norfolk.

It would be great to have some alternative pro hockey games in San Jose.

I don't like paying $$$ to see if the Sharks want to play hard that game or not.
