20 and counting. Saginaw have been on run of their own lately and they always play us hard. Get past them and the rest are all doable.

These are the teams the Hounds have to play to beat the 25 game winning streak

DEC-28 SSM @ SAG
DEC 29 FLNT @ SSM
DEC 30 GUE @ SSM
JAN 4 SSM @ MISS
JAN 5 SSM @ OSH
JAN 7 SSM @ GUE

Very doable with that sort of schedule, the only game that I see challenging is the Saginaw game given their play as of late

Well we just hope the boys don't eat to much turkey over the Christmas break so they can give Saganwa a loss.

Yeah we should be in good shape in the future so hopefully Raftis can only send picks 2 and 3 years from now so we have a chance to recoup them between now and then.

And it's very likely the Soo may get that mark..

Lol. They should coast to the record and then some. Based on their schedule, they won't play another decent team until Sarnia on January 19. This is a great Soo team, and you have to win the games no matter who you play on the schedule, but it must be pointed out that they've had a pretty easy go during the streak. All those games against Flint, Northbay, Sudbury?

Hats off though.

Really? In this same time frame Sarnia lost to Flint and North Bay. Hounds did not. Also Hounds beat Sarnia twice (once in Sarnia), Niagra, Kitchener twice(once in Kitchener) and in Kingston and Peteborough twice (once there). Sarnia was # 1 in the country. Not sure what you want them to do. Cannot beat Hamilton if you go not play them. Who else is tough to play?

Also beat Windsor and Guelph who have good records. Have not met up with Barrie or Hamilton.

I didn't say they didn't play any tough teams, but they did have the benefit of playing some easy competition during the streak.

The Soo took it to my Rangers up in the Soo last visit. Kudos. We have been without a number one goalie since the second week of October. Of course, the Soo just edged us out Friday night with the same goaltending that we had up in the Soo last time. We should have won Friday night actually if not for a letdown in the final five minutes. But that's hockey.

Again, the Soo won't play any decent competition for the next few games so they should coast their way to surpassing Kitchener's 25 game win streak.

Well the Christmas break is on officially for the Hounds. Excellent, heck beyond excellent first half! Great fun watching this style of hockey, i hope it can translate into playoff victories as well?

Either way it was so much fun to watch in person and on TV! A very Merry Christmas to all the Hounds and of course to all of you out there. I'm sure the team might/will look different after the New Year but i'm hoping for as little movement as possible while still staying ahead of the pack. It's also a matter of pride with all the rookies we've played this first half and still be as successful as we have thus far!

A Happy New Year wish to all!!! :thumbu:

How good are the Hounds this year? Wow I did not realize only 3 regulation losses at the midway mark. Thats crazy! How do they stack up against other teams who have won the league so far and also is this your year?

Re: The Winning Streak

Does anybody here remember the brawl in Sault Ste. Marie (10 players and three fans ejected, two broken noses, one wrestling match with a police officer) that is credited with starting the Kitchener Rangers’ 25-game winning streak in 1984? It is described in this article from 2013:

Rangers’ record born out of a brawl

EvenSteven says in his post above that with respect to the Greyhounds’ streak “… it must be pointed out that they’ve had a pretty easy go during the streak. All those games against Flint, North Bay, Sudbury?”

At the end of the newspaper article you will find a list of the teams the Rangers beat during their streak.

Interestingly the streak was built largely on having played a significant number of games against very weak teams.
In compiling their streak the Rangers recorded two wins against the North Bay Centennials (end of season record 22 wins, 43 losses, 5 ties), three wins against the Windsor Spitfires (22-46-2); four wins against the Guelph Platers (20-46-4); four wins against the Sudbury Wolves (19-50-1); and two wins against the Kingston Canadians (25-45-0). That’s a total of 15 wins against very weak teams. They also recorded a number of wins against sub .500 teams but I’ve just focused on those teams with real sad records.

It would seem then that the Greyhounds are doing what successful teams do – prey on the weak! We have every reason to be proud of what our boys are doing!

I'd say the Hounds are about 50/50 to break the streak. Even if you think they're 90% likely to win each of those games, that's still only a 53% chance of going 6-0. Even great teams lose once in a while, and especially at the junior level, I think the pressure is real.

The "beating weak teams" discussion is always an interesting one. I think it needs to be pointed out, but you need to consider margin of victory as well, and the Soo have serious scheduling considerations that need to be factored in, too. The simple fact, though, is that it's nearly impossible to put up a big streak against strong competition. Even a good team would need a crazy amount of luck to ring up a bunch of wins in a row against teams they're only 60-40 or even 70-30 favourites against.

A streak is defined as a continued period of success and luck. The Hounds have had both. Its not the best streak in hockey, but it's the best streak any Hound fan (or Hound team) has ever experienced. Sure it will come to an end. It could happen as early as their next game, or it may even continue to threat the OHL record and surpass it. Either way, all Hound fans are enjoying it. The Christmas break could kill momentum and this team could have a different look in a few weeks. Regardless it's a very good time at this moment to be a Hound fan. Nothing has been won yet, but the excitement is nice.

An article leading up to the playoff series that year. Kitchener won it in 7 games with deciding game in Brantford as a home show had been booked for the Auditorium

Yes he played wing tonight
You know what is scary is we are beating teams and we have 8-9 rookies in the lineup nobody is mentioning that we will still be strong next season
Very valid observation. The year we won the Memorial Cup in 1993, the following year we graduated Intranuovo, Reid, Hodson, Kowalsky, Penney, Matier, Matsos
Coming back was rookie walk-on Steve Sullivan who fired 51 goals, Aaron Gavey in his 3rd season got 42, Jeff Toms 52 and Tom MacDonald 34
Drew Bannister turned in a 50 point campaign
Rookie Dan Cloutier appeared in 55 games
So essentially the team was not gutted and was extremely competitive the next season accruing 35 wins, a mere 3 less than the Memorial Cup team
They even swept Windsor and Guelph before dropping a 6 game series vs Detroit
So back to your point, the rookies contributed to the success the following season
The following season, though we paid the price for 4 great seasons and only got 17 wins

A strange thing happens when a team like the Hounds goes to battle with a bottom feeder or so called weaker team. They have a natural tendency to play harder and the best they can because the goal is to be the team that breaks the run. Therefore thinking that weaker teams are an easy mark that's bunka.
