That would be awfully hard to do on a team that has 5-on-5 savants like Evander Kane, Timo Meier, and Tomas Hertl locked up long term.
Um, ok? I thought this was about LaBanc

If he's a minimalist wouldn't he take the minimum .You know... my eyebrows raised when I saw this deal. But here’s the thing, unless he sustains a career ender, he’s gonna make out well next summer. We can’t look into a person’s head and determine their motivation. Maybe he prides himself in being a minimalist

Anybody else shocked that there wasn't an investigation?
No but if my job payed me 60k a year to do what I do I'd get a phone call from the IRS. Simply put, this contract has shady written all over it.Why would that be needed?
Are there some people out there who think he was forced to sign with a gun to his head?

It's a one year RFA deal. Lower salary this year to break the bank afterwards. Also if he took more money he probably get to play with forward scrubs due to all the money committed to the back end.
He won't get paid. He is a modern day Czerkawski, he can put up points but nothing else at all. It's a one year RFA deal. Lower salary this year to break the bank afterwards. Also if he took more money he probably get to play with forward scrubs due to all the money committed to the back end.

I think he gets moved at the deadline if San Jose is at risk of not making the playoffs. Cap hit is ideal for a team willing to go all in. Labanc played himself, if everything on the surface is what it seems. Actually even if it isn't he still played himself. He'll get his multi-year 5-6 millions a year contract.
If he gets moved at the deadline, then a player would never sign with San Jose again. There is no risk of not making the playoffs and Labanc will be a shark for a long timeI think he gets moved at the deadline if San Jose is at risk of not making the playoffs. That's absurd. Teams going all in only need to consider a low percentage of the cap hit anyways due to most of the year having gone by. If you traded a 10 million dollar player at the trade deadline, the team Receiving him only has to worry about a fraction of that being added to caphit. Something like 2.5 million. and that is an extreme example.I think he gets moved at the deadline if San Jose is at risk of not making the playoffs. Cap hit is ideal for a team willing to go all in. Setoguci was a sign and trade and SJ has signed many contracts since then.If he gets moved at the deadline, then a player would never sign with San Jose again. There is no risk of not making the playoffs and Labanc will be a shark for a long time
He really just is a PP specialist at the moment. Although in junior he was one of the best PKers in the OHL, and I'm pretty sure lead the league in points, so he has a lot of room to grow into.I'm thinking closer to 4 unless he takes a big step, not in points but in his game

I understand victim blaming, but I'll call it out when i see it.Setoguchi was done a favor by DW signing that contract since it put him straight to UFA. If Seto had played his cards right, he would've gotten his big deal as soon as he could have but he messed it up.

For those still looking for the answer to why.
