104 of 213 is not a good face off man.
That's not the point.
48.8 is below average, obviously.
But for a guy with limited experience at center, it's not bad.
And consider how bad he was the rest of the year. (67/186). 36 percent.
AA was asked faceoffs. He said he'd get better with repetition. He was right.
And frankly, look at how teams played the Wings and what happened in those last 16 games. The Wings had their dead cat bounce of 8 wins in 9 games while icing a roster that included Matt Puempel, Dylan McIlrath, Jake Chelios, Ryan Kuffner, Brian Lashoff, and Taro Hirose fresh off the street. Teams clearly didn’t take the Wings at all seriously while gearing up for the playoffs themselves. The Wings iced an AHL roster and won 8 of 9. The roster to end 18-19 was worse than the roster they put out this past season.
Nice theory.
8/16 teams were playoff teams. 1 was a team 2 points out.
Teams might have played their backup goalie.
The Wings went 9-7 in those 16 games. They weren't world beaters.
He was hurt early this year and it did affect him. He may even be a bargain for some team. However, he’s going to struggle to get more than a league minimum deal in COVID locked cap world because his limitations have been out on display and it’s harder to bury/dump him if you get the sulky AA
He was literally butt hurt. He scored a goal in the preseason and crashed butt/back-first into the boards. Left the game. Misse the the rest of the preseason. Missed the opening games of the season.
And totally didn't look like AA all year.
Goals/60 went from 1.22 to .59
That's elite to run of the mill.
Shots/60 went from 9.32 to 7.98 - worst of his career.
Scoring chances for/60 went from 9.5 to 7.1.
Penalties drawn 60 went from 1.45 to .69.
Elite to average.
In the playoffs, AA's scoring didn't come back.
But his shots/60 rebounded to 8.55.
Scoring chances/60 rebounded to 14.25.
And he drew penalties again (4.28).
